Commanding Officer, Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron 502
Lieutenant Colonel Adam D. Wellington

Lieutenant Colonel Wellington graduated from the University of Iowa in May 2005 and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant through the Platoon Leader Course Program.  Upon completion of The Basic School, Second Lieutenant Wellington reported to Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola where he commenced pilot training.  In March 2009, First Lieutenant Wellington was designated a Naval Aviator and proceeded to Marine Corps Air Station Miramar to complete FA-18 pilot training with Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron 101.
 
In September 2010, Captain Wellington was assigned to Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 314 aboard Marine Corps Air Station Miramar.  From September 2010 to April 2014, Captain Wellington deployed once to Japan in support of the Unit Deployment Program and twice to the CENTCOM Area of Responsibility for Request for Forces deployments. During this tour Captain Wellington attended the Naval Strike Fighter Weapons School and the Aviation Safety Officer course.  Captain Wellington served in a variety of billets to include the squadron's Aviation Safety Officer and the Pilot Training Officer. 
 
In June 2014 Captain Wellington reported to the Expeditionary Warfare School aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico for the 2014-2015 academic year.
 
Following graduation from Expeditionary Warfare School Captain Wellington reported to Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron 501 for F-35B transition/conversion training. Upon completion of initial F-35 training Major Wellington reported to Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 121 aboard Marine Corps Air Station Yuma in October 2015. Major Wellington relocated with Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 121 to Iwakuni Japan in December 2016 and supported multiple theater cooperation exercises, as well as multiple 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit patrols.  Major Wellington served in several billets while assigned to Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 121 to include the unit’s Aviation Safety Officer, Aircraft Maintenance Officer, and the Executive Officer.   
 
In December 2019 Major Wellington was assigned to Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron 501 to serve as the Aircraft Maintenance Officer, Chief Instructor Pilot, and as a F-35B Instructor Pilot.  While attached to Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron 501 Major Wellington was selected for command of Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron 502 and moved to Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in January 2022.
 
Lieutenant Colonel Wellington currently serves as an instructor pilot for Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron 502.  Lieutenant Colonel Wellington’s personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3rd Award) and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
 
Lieutenant Colonel Wellington is a graduate of the University of Iowa where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in history, as well as New England College where he received a Master of Arts degree in Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness.  He is married with two sons and a daughter.
