Lieutenant Colonel Sean M. Callison

Lieutenant Colonel Sean Callison is a graduate of San Diego State University with a Bachelors of Science degree in Finance.  He was commissioned through Officer’s Candidate School as a Second Lieutenant in November of 2007.

Lieutenant Colonel Callison attended The Basic School with Bravo Company in 2008.  He reported to NAS Pensacola, FL in August 2008 for flight training.  After training at NAS Corpus Christi, TX and NAS Kingsville, TX, Lieutenant Colonel Callison was designated a Naval Aviator in February 2011 and slated for the AV-8B Harrier in Yuma, AZ.  From April 2011 to March 2012 Lieutenant Colonel Callison trained at VMAT-203 aboard MCAS Cherry Point. 

In March 2012 Lieutenant Colonel Callison checked into MAG-13, MCAS Yuma, AZ and was detailed to Marine Attack Squadron 513, “The Flying Nightmares.” In June 2012 Lieutenant Colonel Callison deployed with VMA-513 to Nellis AFB, NV to participate in Green Flag.   Shortly thereafter, Lieutenant Colonel Callison deployed to the Western Pacific in support of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit from December 2012 to June 2013.  VMA-513 supported Exercises COBRA GOLD and FOAL EAGLE while operating from Iwakuni and Okinawa, Japan and the USS Bonhomme Richard.  Upon return from WESTPAC, VMA-513 began preparations to deactivate the squadron.  VMA-513 deactivated July 13th 2013, and upon deactivation Lieutenant Colonel Callison moved down the flight line to VMA-211.  During his time with VMA-513 Lieutenant Colonel Callison served as the S-1 Officer and was noted as the last new pilot to check in to VMA-513.

In July 2013 Lieutenant Colonel Callison checked into VMA-211 and took over the responsibilities as the Airframes and Corrosion Control Officer.  Lieutenant Colonel Callison deployed aboard the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit from July 2014 to February 2015.

Upon return from the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, Lieutenant Colonel Callison attended Tactical Air Control Party school in Coronado, CA and earned the additional MOS of 7502 Forward Air Controller. From there Lieutenant Colonel Callison moved north to Camp Pendleton CA and attached to 2d Battalion 1st Marines and subsequently deployed aboard the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit from February-September 2016.

Upon return from the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit, Lieutenant Colonel Callison moved back to MCAS Yuma and was attached to the Blacksheep of VMA-214 and working as the Quality Assurance Officer.  Lieutenant Colonel Callison deployed again this time with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit from July 2017 to February 2018.  When Lieutenant Colonel Callison returned he was selected to attend the Weapons and Tactics Instructor (WTI) course in the fall of 2018. At the conclusion of WTI Lieutenant Colonel Callison assumed the duties of Aviation Maintenance Officer for VMA-214 until he PCS’d in November of 2019.

Lieutenant Colonel Callison checked into VMFAT-501 in November of 2019 for conversion to the F-35B.  Upon completion of the F-35B conversion syllabus, Lieutenant Colonel Callison became a Fleet Replacement Squadron Instructor.  During his time at VMFAT-501 Lieutenant Colonel Callison, served as Flight Officer and Director of Safety and Standardization.

In May of 2022, Lieutenant Colonel Callison received orders back to the “The Flying Nightmares” but this time as VMFAT-502 and now flying the F-35B.  Lieutenant Colonel Callison remains apart of the VMFAT-502 and is currently serving as the Executive Officer.

Lieutenant Colonel Callison’s personal awards and decorations include the Air Medal with Strike Flight, Navy Commendation Medal gold star in lieu of 2d award, Navy Achievement Medal gold star in lieu of 2d award, Operation Inherent Resolve Medal, Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal, National Defense medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Naval Unit Commendation and Sea Service Deployment ribbons (4).
