SgtMaj Mangrum attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California on August 2, 1994 and Marine Combat Training at Camp Pendleton, California in October 2004. Upon graduation, Pvt Mangrum reported to Amphibious Assault Vehicle Repairman School at Camp Pendleton, California where he earned the Military Occupation Specialty (MOS) of 2141, Assault Amphibian Vehicle Repairman. In April, 1995 PFC Mangrum reported to 3rd Marine Regiment, MCB Hawaii. While stationed in Hawaii, he participated in Operations Foal Eagle ’95; Tafakula ’96; and CARAT ’97. In May 1998, Sgt Mangrum attended the Intermediate Maintenance Course at Camp Pendleton, California. Upon completion in September, he reported to Inspector-Instructor Staff, Co A (-), 4th AABn, Norfolk, Virginia. While stationed in Norfolk, he was a distinguished graduate at the Sergeant’s Course and also graduated from the Career Course. In July 2002, SSgt Mangrum reported to 2nd AABn, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. While in North Carolina, he deployed to Iraq with Task Force Tarawa in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In July 2004, SSgt Mangrum reported to MSG School class 5-04. Upon graduation as the SNCO honor graduate in September, he transferred and served as the Detachment Commander of MSG Det Tunis in October 2004. In March 2006, GySgt Mangrum reported to MSG School in Quantico, Virginia for duty as Instructor Advisor where he taught for seven classes. While stationed in Virginia he graduated as the honor graduate from the Advanced Course. In October 2007, GySgt Mangrum transferred and served as the Detachment Commander of MSG Det Tokyo. In May 2009, 1stSgt Mangrum reported to 1st Battalion, 2d Marines where he served as the Company First Sergeant for Company C and Headquarters and Service Company. While assigned to 1st Battalion, 2d Marines, he deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and deployed in support of the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit. In February 2013, 1stSgt Mangrum reported to Supply Battalion where he served as Company 1stSgt for Supply Company. In January 2015, SgtMaj Mangrum assumed the post of Squadron Sergeant Major for VMFA-314 where he currently serves. SgtMaj Mangrum holds an Associate’s Degree in General Studies from Central Texas College and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Information Systems from Ashford University.
PERSONAL AWARDS: Meritorious Service Medal with gold star in lieu of second award, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with “V” device and gold star in lieu of second award, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two gold stars in lieu of third award, and Combat Action Ribbon with gold star in lieu of second award.
