Major Grayson Hendrix

Major Hendrix was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in 2012 following graduation from the University of Minnesota-Duluth and reported to The Basic School (TBS) in July of that year. Upon completion of TBS, he was assigned to Marine Aviation Training Support Group 21 at Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida. Following introductory flight screening and aviation pre-flight indoctrination he was assigned to Training Squadron 10 and began primary flight training as a Student Naval Flight Officer.

Second Lieutenant Hendrix completed primary and intermediate flight training with Training Squadron 10, training in the T-6A. Upon completion of intermediate training, he reported to Training Squadron 86 for advanced flight training in the T-45C. First Lieutenant Hendrix was selected to fly the F/A-18D Hornet and completed advanced flight training earning his Naval Flight Officer wings in May of 2015. Following flight training, he reported to Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron 101 (VMFAT-101) at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Miramar for initial training in the F/A-18 Hornet.

Upon completion of his initial F/A-18 training at VMFAT-101, he reported to MCAS Iwakuni, Japan to serve as a Weapon Systems Officer (WSO) with VMFA(AW)-242. During his tour with the “Bats”, he held billets in the operations department as a schedule officer and in the maintenance department as the airframes division officer-in-charge (OIC). He deployed to support theater security cooperation exercises in multiple locations throughout the pacific area of responsibility (AOR) including Guam, Australia, Republic of Korea, Singapore, and Thailand.

Following his tour in Japan, Captain Hendrix reported to VMFAT-101 as an instructor WSO and the Quality Assurance OIC. He attended Expeditionary Warfare School Blended Seminar Program aboard Camp Pendleton and graduated in 2020. In 2021, he completed the Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor course (TOPGUN). Following graduation from TOPGUN, he served as assistant operations officer, fleet transition (FTN) phase head, and training officer.

Following the sundown of VMFAT-101, Major Hendrix reported to Marine Aircraft Group 11 (MAG-11) to serve as the MAG Weapons and Tactics Instructor. During his time with MAG-11, he assisted as the government program manager (GPM) for the Tactics and Training Facility and F/A-18 Type/Model/Series (TMS) Deputy.  In addition to assisting as TMS Deputy, he also aided in the development and implementation of future software for F/A-18 simulators.

In August of 2024, Major Hendrix reported to VMFA-323 as the Executive Officer. Major Hendrix’s personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (Third Award).
