Major Justin Floyd

Major Floyd was born in Blacksburg, VA. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy and commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in May of 2005 with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science.  He was selected for the Voluntary Graduate Education Program, and received a Master of Science in Computer Science from The Johns Hopkins University in December 2005.

Maj Floyd completed The Basic School in October 2006 as a member of Charlie Company, and was then assigned Permissive Temporary Additional Duty (PTAD) to the United States Naval Test Pilot School and Marine Air Group 11. Following Aviation Preflight Indoctrination at NAS Pensacola, he reported to NAS Corpus Christi for Primary Naval Flight Training in the T-34C and NAS Kingsville for Advanced Naval Flight Training in the T-45A. After being designated as a Naval Aviator in March 2009, he reported to NAS Oceana, for F/A-18 Hornet training.  In May 2010, he reported to VMFA-314 at MCAS Miramar and completed a Western Pacific deployment and deployed to Al Jaber, Kuwait and Sheikh Isa Air Base, Bahrain in support of RFF 1200. There, he served as a Schedules Officer, Flight Officer, and Airframes Officer.  After designation as a Forward Air Controller in 2013, Major Floyd reported to 2d Bn, 3d Marines at MCB Kaneohe Bay where he served as the Battalion Air Officer and completed a Unit Deployment Program to Okinawa, Japan and South Korea.

Major Floyd began his second flying tour in December of 2015, joining VMFA-312 and, subsequently, VMFA(AW)-224 at MCAS Beaufort, where he completed a Western Pacific deployment serving as Quality Assurance Officer, and a deployed in support of OPERATION INHERENT RESOLVE serving as Administrative Officer. He then reported to VMFAT-101, MCAS Miramar, in July of 2018 and graduated the TOPGUN Adversary course in 2021. He served as the Administrative Officer, Operations Officer, Intelligence Officer, and Mission Planning Officer.

Major Floyd achieved his current rank in August 2015. He joined VMFA-323 “Death Rattlers” in May of 2023 as the Executive Officer. His personal decorations include the Air Medal with numeral “5”, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one Gold Star, National Defense Service Medal, Operation Inherent Resolve Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service and Expeditionary Medals, Korean Defense Medal, and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with four stars.

He has amassed over 2,500 flight hours including over 280 combat hours in Iraq and Syria.
