Gunnery Sergeant Benjamin Becker enlisted in the Marine Corps in September of 1997 after graduating from Slinger High School in Slinger, Wisconsin. Upon completion of recruit training and combat training in February 1998, he attended to the Armed Forces School of Music Basic Course. Upon graduating in July 1998, he reported to the 2nd Marine Division Band in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina as a tuba instrumentalist.
In January 2001 Gunnery Sergeant Becker returned to the School of Music for the Ceremonial Conductor and Drum Major Course. Following completion he reported to Marine Band San Diego as a tuba instrumentalist. Gunnery Sergeant Becker also served as the Assistant Drum Major, Administration Chief, Platoon Sergeant, and Brass Quintet unit leader. In March of 2004 he transferred to the Parris Island Marine Band, where he served as a tuba instrumentalist, Platoon Sergeant, and acting Drum Major. Gunnery Sergeant Becker was selected as a Drum Major in 2006 and subsequently transferred to the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing Band to serve as Drum Major. In January 2008, he deployed to Iraq with Marine Wing Support Group-37 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
In June 2009 he transferred to the Commander, Naval Forces Europe Band/Allied Forces Band Europe where he served as Operations Chief, Drum Major, and tuba instrumentalist. He was promoted to his current rank in July 2009. In June 2012 Gunnery Sergeant Becker was transferred to the 1st Marine Division Band where he served as the Drum Major and acting Bandmaster.
Gunnery Sergeant Becker returned to the 3d Marine Aircraft Wing Band in August 2016 to serve as the Drum Major.
