Gunnery Sergeant Robert Hungerford Small Ensemble Leader, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing Band

Gunnery Sergeant Robert Hungerford is the Small Ensemble Leader of the Third Marine Aircraft Wing Band where he oversees daily operations and musical proficiency of all small ensembles within the unit. Additionally, GySgt Hungerford is responsible for a corps of Staff Arrangers and for the unit's Sound Reinforcement section.  

After graduating high school in Columbia, MD, Gunnery Sergeant Hungerford attended Recruit Training at Parris Island Recruit Depot, SC in July of 2001. Following completion of Marine Corps Recruit Training, Marine Combat Training and the Basic Musician Course at the Naval School of Music, he went on to serve in various billets during his tours with 3 different Marine Corps Bands, the Command Naval Forces Europe Band, and aboard the Naval School of Music.  Key billets throughout his career include Platoon Sergeant, Training Staff Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge, Tuba Instrumentalist, Brass Group Leader, Unit Leader of Brass Quintets and Brass Bands, Tuba Instrumental Instructor, Brass Branch Head, and Rehearsal Division Instructor.

Musical highlights from GySgt Hungerford's career include numerous televised performances for sporting events and performances for dignitaries and heads of state, various military band festivals to include the Virginia International Tattoo, Tokyo Marching Festival, Garmisch-Partenkirchen Marching Festival, and performing as the drum major for the 2012 Edinburgh Military Tattoo. GySgt Hungerford has multiple deployments in support of Operation Goodwill in the Philippines, Africa Partnership Station, West Africa, and Operation Sea Breeze in Odessa, Ukraine. 

GySgt Hungerford's decorations and service awards include the Navy Commendation Medal with Gold Star, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Gold Star, the Navy Unit Commendation, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, The Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, The National Defense Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon and the Navy and Marin Corps Overseas Service Ribbon.
