LtCol Boyd was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in December 1999 via the Platoon Leaders Course Program after receiving a BA from the University of Florida.
Following The Basic School and the Basic Logistics Officer Course, he was assigned to Charlie Company, 1st Transportation Support Battalion, 1st Force Service Support Group in the spring of 2001 and served as a Motor Transport Platoon Commander and Company Executive Officer. In January 2003, First Lieutenant Boyd deployed as the Executive Officer of Combat Service Support Company-115 (CSSC-115) in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom until June 2003 when he assumed command of the Company until redeployment in September 2003. Four months later, Captain Boyd assumed command of CSSC-111 and redeployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II. Upon his return in May 2004, he received orders to Marine Barracks Washington, D.C.
Captain Boyd served as the Assistant Logistics Officer and Logistics Officer, Marine Corps Institute Company, Marine Barracks Washington from June 2004 to June 2007. During this tour Captain Boyd also served as a Ceremonial Marcher and a White House Military Social Aide. Upon completion of this tour, he attended the Expeditionary Warfare School (EWS) in Quantico, VA.
Upon graduation in May 2008, Captain Boyd reported to the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) for service as the MEU’s Assistant Logistics Officer and deployed from September 2009 until February 2010 as part of WestPac 09-02. In June 2010, he reported to the 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, for duty as the Regimental Logistics Officer.
In May 2011, Major Boyd deployed with RCT-5 to Helmand Province, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 11.2-12.2. Upon the RCT’s return in August of 2012, Major Boyd continued to serve as the Regimental Logistics Officer until receiving orders to Command and Staff College, Marine Corps University in Quantico, VA for assignment as a student in July 2013.
Upon graduation the following June, Major Boyd reported to Combat Development and Integration (CD&I) for assignment as the Maritime Prepositioning Ships Requirements Officer. Following his HQMC tour, Lieutenant Colonel Boyd reported to 3d Marine Expeditionary Brigade (MEB) in August 2017 for service as the G-3 Future Operations Officer. During this tour, he participated in security cooperation activities across the Philippines, South Korea, and Japan.
In the Summer of 2018, LtCol Boyd received orders to Marine Wing Support Group-37, 3d Marine Aircraft Wing for service as the Group’s Operations Officer.
LtCol Boyd holds a Masters of Military Studies degree from Marine Corps University. His personal awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (with gold star), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (with two gold stars) and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
