Major Tyrone Anub is a graduate of California State University, Sacramento, with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in 2007. Following graduation from The Basic School and Air Support Control Officer Course in 29 Palms, Second Lieutenant Anub reported to Marine Air Support Squadron 1, Marine Air Control Group 28 aboard Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, NC where he was assigned as a 2nd platoon commander with Air Support Company.
Second Lieutenant Anub deployed with MASS-1 in 2009 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom serving as Helicopter Director and Tactical Air Director during Operation Khanjar. Qualifying on both positions, he began training as a Senior Air Director during that deployment. Upon his return, he resumed duties as a platoon command, later being assigned as the executive officer of Air Support Company “B”, Commanding Officer of Air Support Company “B”, and Commanding Officer of Headquarters and Services Company. In 2010, First Lieutenant Anub graduated with honors from the Martial Arts Instructor course aboard the School of Infantry, East.
In July of 2011 First Lieutenant Anub was assigned as the Air Support Element Officer in charge and detached to the MACG-28 detachment, Marine Medium Tilt-rotor squadron 261 (reinforced), 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit and deployed as such in January of 2012. Captain Anub supported various operations and exercises with the 24th MEU and returned to MASS-1 in January of 2013. He completed the Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course 2-13 earning the 7277 MOS.
In June 2013, Captain Anub began assignment with Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron 1. For the next year Captain Anub served as the Academics Assessment Officer before fleeting up to serve an additional two years as the Direct Air Support Center Division Head. During this time, Captain Anub completed Expeditionary Warfare School and the Tactical Tomahawk Commander’s Course. Following assignment at MAWTS-1, in summer of 2016, Captain Anub reported to Marine Operational Test and Evaluation Squadron 1 (VMX-1) to serve as the DASC Division head and Operational Test Director for the Tactical Air Control Element (TACE).
In the winter of 2016 he was selected to Major and to attend resident Professional Military Education at the US Naval War College in Newport, RI. During this time, Major Anub earned a Master of Arts, with Distinction, in Defense and Strategic Studies. Following graduation from the War College, in 2018, Major Anub returned to Yuma for duty as the Operations Officer for MACS-1. During the following year, he planned for the squadron’s support of over 30 separate training exercises. In June of 2019, Major Anub assumed his current billet as the Executive Officer of MACS-1.
Major Anub’s personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (with Gold Star), and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
