Executive Officer, 3d Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion
Major Robert M. Barclay

Major Barclay is a native of Englewood, Florida, and completed his undergraduate degree from the University of Central Florida in 2007. He attended Officer Candidates School and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Marine Corps shortly thereafter.

In 2007, Major Barclay attended The Basic School and graduated in 2008, where he was subsequently assigned to the Low Altitude Air Defense Officers Course, Fort Bliss, Texas.  Following the successful completion of the course, he earned the Military Occupational Specialty of 7204 and reported for duty to 3d Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion (3d LAAD Bn), Camp Pendleton, California to serve as a Platoon Commander, Battery B Executive Officer, and Battalion Logistics Officer. In 2010, as the Battery B Executive Officer, he deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 10.1 in Helmand Province, AFG.

In 2011, Major Barclay reported for duty at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego (MCRD SD) and served as a Series Commander for Company K and Company M, and the Company Commander for Company I, 3d Recruit Training Battalion. In 2013, he was selected to serve as the Protocol Officer for MCRD SD and the Western Recruiting Region.

Major Barclay arrived for his second tour at 3d LAAD Bn in 2014 to serve as the Battery Commander for Battery A and as the Battalion’s Operations Officer. He departed in 2017 to attend the Marine Corps Command and Staff (CSC) College in Quantico, Virginia, where he earned his Master’s degree in Military Studies.

Following CSC in 2018, Major Barclay reported for duty to Headquarters Marine Corps, Combat Development and Integration in Quantico, Virginia, to serve as the Marine Corps Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems and Ground Based Air Defense Capabilities Integration Officer. In 2020, he once again returned to 3d LAAD Bn for duty.

In 2020, Major Barclay served as the Battalion’s Operation Officer and now currently serves as the Battalion’s Executive Officer. His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal and the Marine Corps Commendation Medal (w/ two gold stars in lieu of 3rd award).
