Major Nordstrom joined the Marine Corps in May 2009 after graduating from the United States Naval Academy with a Bachelor’s Degree in History. After completing initial officer training he attended naval flight training in Pensacola, FL. Upon completion of flight school Major Nordstrom proceeded to Camp Pendleton, CA to begin flight training in the AH-1W.
Major Nordstrom’s first fleet assignment was aboard MCAS Cherry Point, NC with HMLA-467. From January 2013 to December 2015 Major Nordstrom served in Operations, as the Substance Abuse Control Officer and as the Avionics Officer for the “Sabers.” While with HMLA-467 he deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.
From December 2015 to January 2017 Major Nordstrom joined VMM-264 (Reinforced) in support of the 22 Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) as part of the HMLA detachment. During his time with the “Black Knights” he served as the Ordnance Officer. While deployed with the 22d MEU the HMLA detachment supported coalition forces during Operation ODYSSEY LIGHTNING with rotary wing close air support in Sirte, Libya.
In February 2017 the H-1 detachment redeployed to HMLA-269. While with the “Gunrunners” Major Nordstrom served as the Assistant Quality Assurance Officer.
In June 2017 Major Nordstrom joined VT-27 as part of MATSG-22 in Corpus Christi, TX. While with the “Boomers” he served as an instructor pilot in the T-6B and as the Assistant Student Control Officer.
In May 2019 Major Nordstrom transferred to HMLAT-303. At “Atlas” he transitioned to the AH-1Z and was designated a Fleet Replacement Syllabus Instructor. Major Nordstrom served as the Logistics Officer in Charge before becoming the Executive Officer.
Major Nordstrom’s personal awards include the Air Medal with numeral 4, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (with gold star).
