Sergeant Major Rosalia Scifo was born in Orange, CA on 23 July 1974. She enlisted in the Marine Corps on 14 June 1994 and attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, SC. Upon graduation on 21 September 1994, she reported to Ft. McClellan, AL as a private first class where she attended Military Police (MP) School.
Upon completion of MP School, Private First Class Scifo received the MOS of 5811 MP and was transferred to Security Battalion, Marine Corps Base (MCB), Camp Pendleton, CA. During her tenure she worked as a Gate Sentry, Patrolman, Patrol Supervisor, and a 911 Emergency Dispatcher. Additionally, she was promoted to the ranks of Lance Corporal and Corporal during her tour.
In April 1998, Corporal Scifo was transferred to Ft McClellan, AL to serve as an Instructor at the MP School. In June 1998, she was promoted to the rank of sergeant. Sergeant Scifo worked as the S-3 clerk, and then was reassigned as the noncommissioned officer in charge (NCOIC) of the Marines Awaiting Training-Transfer Platoon (MATT). Sergeant Scifo later transferred to Ft Leonard Wood, MO for duty where she played a critical role during the BRAC closure and served as the NCOIC of MATT Platoon.
In October 2000, Sergeant Scifo attended Drill Instructor School at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, SC and received the MOS of 8511 Drill Instructor. Sergeant Scifo was hand selected to be one of the first females to attend the new Marine Corps Martial Arts Program and earned the qualification of Green Belt Instructor. Throughout her tenure she was assigned to Company P 4th Recruit Training Battalion, promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant, served as Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, and Company Gunnery Sergeant.
In July 2004, Staff Sergeant Scifo was transferred to Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan for duty at the Provost Marshal’s Office to serve as the night shift Watch Commander. Staff Sergeant Scifo was recognized for her superior performance during the 2005 Annual Friendship Day Celebration aboard MCAS Iwakuni where she was directly responsible for the controlled safety and security of over one million visitors. During her tour she also served as the Training Chief, Range Safety Officer, and was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant on 1 October 2006.
In December 2006, Gunnery Sergeant Scifo was transferred to Manpower Management Division Enlisted Assignments, Headquarters Marine Corps, Quantico, VA to serve as an Enlisted Career Counselor. During the summer of 2008 she was temporarily assigned to the Officer Candidate School to serve as a Sergeant Instructor.
In September 2009, Gunnery Sergeant Scifo executed PCS orders to MP Company, Combat Logistic Regiment 17, 1st Marine Logistic Group aboard MCB, Camp Pendleton, CA for duty as Company Gunnery Sergeant (CoGySgt). In September 2010, she was temporarily assigned to I Marine Expeditionary Force (I MEF) and deployed with the Female Engagement Team (FET) in support of Operation Enduring Freedom September 2010 to April 2011. Upon completion of the deployment she returned to her parent command and was frocked to the rank of First Sergeant.
In June 2011, First Sergeant Scifo executed PCA orders to 9th Communications Battalion, I Marine Headquarters Group (I MHG), I Marine Expeditionary Force (I MEF), MCB, Camp Pendleton, for duty as the Support Company First Sergeant. In January 2013, First Sergeant Scifo was temporarily assigned to Headquarters Company, I MHG, I MEF for duty as the Company First Sergeant.
In December 2014, First Sergeant Scifo was transferred to Communication Company, Headquarters Battalion, 1st Marine Division for duty as the Company First Sergeant. First Sergeant Scifo was frocked to the rank of Sergeant Major and subsequently executed PCS orders to Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 251 (VMFA-251) aboard MCAS Beaufort, SC.
In May 2016, Sergeant Major Scifo reported to VMFA-251, MCAS Beaufort, Marine Aircraft Group 31, 2d Marine Air Wing, for duty as the squadron sergeant major. While assigned to VMFA-251 she participated in several Joint Bi-Lateral exercises; such as, Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course 2017 aboard Naval Air Facility, El Centro, CA March to April 2017; RED FLAG ALASKA aboard Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska June 2017; and COBRA GOLD 2018 (CG 18) aboard Korat Royal Thai Air Force Base, Thailand while in support of the Unit Deployment Program based out of MCAS Iwakuni, Japan September 2017 to April 2018.
In May 2018, Sergeant Major Scifo served as the Battalion Sergeant Major at 1st Transportation Support Battalion, Combat Logistics Regiment 1, 1st Marine Logistics Group.
In November 2019, Sergeant Major Scifo received orders to HQBN, 1st Marine Division, to serve as the Battalion Sergeant Major
Sergeant Major Scifo’s personal awards include: the Meritorious Service Medal with 2 gold stars, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with 2 gold stars, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with 2 gold stars, and the Army Achievement Medal.
