Sergeant Major Rosalia Scifo

Sergeant Major Rosalia Scifo enlisted in the Marine Corps on 14 June 1994 and attended recruit training at MCRD, Parris Island, SC.  Upon graduating as a Private First Class she reported to Fort McClellan, Alabama, where she attended Military Police School. Upon completion of MP School, Private First Class Scifo received the 5811 MP military occupational specialty and was assigned to Security Battalion, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.  During that assignment, she served as a Gate Sentry, Patrolman, Patrol Supervisor, and 911 Emergency Dispatcher. In April 1998, Corporal Scifo transferred to Fort McClellan, AL to serve as an MP School Instructor. During that assignment, she also served as the S-3 Clerk and Marines Awaiting Training-Transfer Platoon Noncommissioned Officer-in-Charge.  She later transferred to Fort Leonard Wood, MO as part of the Base Realignment and Closure effort. In October 2000, Sergeant Scifo attended Drill Instructor School, received the MOS of 8511 and served as a Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor and CoGySgt. She was selected to be one of the first female Marines to attend the new Marine Corps Martial Arts Program and earned the Green Belt Instructor qualification. In July 2004, Staff Sergeant Scifo transferred to Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan for duty as a Military Policeman as a Watch Commander.  She was recognized for her superior performance during the 2005 Annual Friendship Day Celebration, where she was solely responsible for the controlled safety and security of more than one million visitors.  During that tour she also served as the Training Chief and Range Safety Officer. In December 2006, Gunnery Sergeant Scifo transferred to Manpower Management Division Enlisted Assignments, Headquarters Marine Corps to serve as an Enlisted Career Counselor.  During the summer of 2008 she was temporarily assigned to Officer Candidates School to serve as a Sergeant Instructor. In September 2009, Gunnery Sergeant Scifo transferred to MP Company, Combat Logistics Regiment-17 for duty as Company Gunnery Sergeant.  In September 2010, she was temporarily assigned to I Marine Expeditionary Force and deployed with the Female Engagement Team in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 10.2 from September 2010 to April 2011. In June 2011, 1stSgt Scifo transferred to 9th Communications Battalion, 1st MHG, for duty as the Support Company First Sergeant.  In January 2013, she was temporarily assigned to Headquarters Company, I MEF Headquarters Group for duty as the Company First Sergeant. In December 2014, 1stSgt Scifo transferred to Communications Company, Headquarters Battalion, 1st Marine Division for duty as the Company First Sergeant. In May 2016, 1stSgt Scifo was frocked to Sergeant Major and transferred to Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA)-251, MCAS Beaufort, SC.  While assigned to VMFA-251, she participated in several Joint and bilateral exercises and UDP to Iwakuni, Japan. In May 2018, she transferred to 1st Transportation Support Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group. In November 2019, she transferred to Headquarters Battalion, 1st Marine Division. In November 2021, she transferred to her current assignment, 3rd Marine Air Wing. Sergeant Major Scifo’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (w/ 4 gold stars), the Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal (w/ 2 gold stars), the Navy-Marine Corps Achievement Medal (w/ 2 gold stars), and the Army Achievement Medal
