Firefighters with the Miramar Fire Department John Hernandez, left, a San Diego native, and John Prigmore, right, an Orange County, Calif. native, exit their temporary fire shelter during in-service fire training at Lake Hodges in Escondido, Calif. May 30. The fire shelters, a last resort for protecting the firefighters in the case that they are overrun by fire, are designed to encompass one person, but the San Diego firefighters always train for the worse case scenario.
