Four Marines work through the dark hours of the night with only one light to replace a high-time swash plate on a CH-53D Sea Stallion at Al Asad, Iraq, Oct. 6. The job lasted for the crew's full 12-hour shift. From start to finish, the Marines had to remove the blades, the main rotor head and the high-time swash plate. After that, they had to put everything back on, which took even longer, as the Marines had to stabilize and torque everything to make sure it fit exactly how it was supposed to. The high-time swash plate was replaced because it had reached the extent of its service life. The Marines are with Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 363, Marine Aircraft Group 16 (Reinforced), 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing (Forward).
