Marine Wing Support Squadron 172, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing (Forward), is the first Pacific Command Marine Wing Support Squadron to set foot in theatre in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Support squadrons are highly technically units, consisting of more than 40 different military occupational specialties that combine to complete several aviation ground support functions.
