Change of Command Ceremony for 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing
24 Jul 2020

MARINE CORPS AIR STATION MIRAMAR, Calif. – (July 24, 2020) 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing hosted a Change of Command Ceremony Friday, July 24, 2020, on Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. During the ceremony, Maj. Gen. Kevin M. Iiams relinquished command to Maj. Gen. Christopher J. Mahoney.

Iiams completed a highly successful, two-year tour as the commanding general of 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing.  His focus on the warfighting basics of Fix, Fly and Fight has significantly increased the readiness, combat capability and lethality of 3rd MAW to defeat any adversary as part of a Marine Expeditionary Force or Marine Air Ground Task Force. Iiams is slated to serve as the assistant deputy commandant for Combat Development and Integration in Quantico, Virginia.

Mahoney previously served as deputy commander of Marine Forces Pacific and the director of Strategy and Plans at Headquarters Marine Corps. His most recent assignment was as the deputy commander for United States Forces Japan before taking command of 3rd MAW.

3rd MAW continues to “Fix, Fly, and Fight” as the Marine Corps’ largest aircraft wing and remains combat-ready, deployable on short notice, and lethal when called into action.
