MARINE CORPS AIR STATION MIRAMAR, Calif --
More than 300 Marines and sailors representing the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing and 1st Marine Logistics Group, from Marine Corps Air Station Miramar and Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton arrived home Jan, 25.
Marine Aircraft Group 16, Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 16 and Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron 3, all from Miramar, returned after deploying to Al Asad, Iraq. The deployments of the 3rd MAW Marines and sailors varied from six months to a year.
While deployed, the overall mission for everybody was keeping the birds in the sky, said Gunnery Sgt. Romeo A. Mckenzie, an electronic key system manager for MWHS-3.
“Everything the Marines do to train at Miramar, they applied in Al Asad,” said Sgt. Maj. Guy Frazier, the Marine Aircraft Group 11 sergeant major. “Everybody is proud and happy about what they did over there.”
Even though the mission takes priority, Marines returning from deployment can cherish this moment and take a well-deserved break by spending quality time with their families, added Frazier.
“There were hundreds of family members that attended this homecoming,” said Christina M. Rodriguez, the family readiness officer for MWHS-3. “All the families were very excited to have them back.”
The homecoming was the second of three homecomings for 3rd MAW Marines at Miramar in the past week.
