MAG-11 Mission Statement

Marine Aircraft Group 11 generates, embarks, and integrates relevant, combat ready aviation forces capable of providing Offensive Air Support, Anti-Aircraft Warfare, Assault Support, Aerial Reconnaissance, and terminal area Control of Aircraft; generates critical aviation logistics support; provides 12 of the functions of Aviation Ground Support; supports the generation of squadrons assigned to Navy Carrier Airwings; trains to standard Marine Fighter/Attack Pilots and Weapons Systems Officers and Navy Strike Fighter Pilots; and prepares to deploy the Marine Aircraft Group Headquarters as a Site Command capable of generating sorties to service standard for the Marine Tactical Air Commander; all in order to ensure success in combat in support of the MAGTF and Combatant Commanders.

Lieutenant Colonel Ryan J. Franzen
Commanding Officer, Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron 101

Lieutenant Colonel Ryan J. Franzen is from Poway, California.  He attended the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) under a Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps scholarship and earned his commission as a 2ndLt in June 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology.  He completed The Basic School in 2003 and was designated a Naval Aviator

Lieutenant Colonel Clayton “PFC” Penton
Executive Officer, Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron 101

LtCol Penton is from Baton Rouge, Louisiana and graduated from Louisiana State University. Upon graduation he attended OCS in January 2002 and was commissioned as a 2ndLt. He reported to Naval Air Station Pensacola for flight training and was winged as a Naval Flight Officer in November 2004. LtCol Penton then reported to VMFAT-101 at MCAS Miramar

Sergeant Major Jonas Johnson
Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron 101 Sergeant Major

Sergeant Major Jonas A. Johnson was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and enlisted in the Marine Corps on 18 September 2001. He completed recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego and upon graduation, he was promoted to the rank of Private First Class. He reported to the School of Infantry West, Camp Pendleton, California for Marine Combat Training in March 2002 and was then transferred to the Armed Forces School of Music in Norfolk, Virginia where he earned the Basic Musician MOS.
