Sergeant Major Walter J. Gamez

    Sergeant Major Gamez enlisted in the Marine Corps from New Orleans, Louisiana on 25 January 2000, and attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California, 1st Battalion, Delta Company.

    After recruit training, he completed Marine Combat Training at Camp Pendleton, California, where he received orders to Marine Corps Engineer School, Camp Lejeune North Carolina for basic engineer equipment electrical systems technician 1142. Upon completion of MOS school in October 2000 Lance Corporal Gamez received orders to Engineer Maintenance Company, 2d Maintenance Battalion Camp Lejeune, North Carolina where he served as an engineer equipment electrical technician. In April 2001 Lance Corporal Gamez was transferred to General Support Maintenance Company, where he served as Fuel and Electric Technician. In February 2002 he was promoted to the rank of Corporal. In March 2002 Corporal Gamez deployed to Saragoza, Spain in support of Rolling Thunder. In July 2003 Corporal Gamez attended the Martial Arts Instructor Course on Camp Geiger, North Carolina. In August 2003, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.

    In April 2004 Sergeant Gamez received orders to Drill Instructor School, Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina. Upon graduating, he was assigned to Third Recruit Training Battalion, Company L, where he completed seven training cycles, eleven months at Physical Conditioning Platoon and one cycle as the Operation Chief for Company L.

    After completing a successful tour as a Drill Instructor in July 2007, Sergeant Gamez was assigned to Combat Logistics Battalion 24, 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit where he served as the Battalion Utilities Chief deploying to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from January 2008 to September 2008. Sergeant Gamez was promoted to Staff Sergeant in August 2008. In 2010 He deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, providing humanitarian relief to the people of Haiti.

    On November 2010 Staff Sergeant Gamez attended the Utility Chief's course at Marine Corps Engineer School. In 2011 he received orders to Marine Corps Engineer School, Utilities Instruction Company where he served as an instructor for Basic Engineer Equipment Electrical Systems Technician course, Academic Chief, Advance Engineer Equipment Electrical Systems Technician course and Company Gunnery Sergeant for Utilities Instruction Company. In 2011 Staff Sergeant Gamez attended Basic Airborne School in Fort Benning, Georgia.

    In October 2014 Staff Sergeant Gamez was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant and received orders to 2d Raider Support Battalion where he served as the Battalion Engineer Equipment Chief, tasked with providing engineer support to all entities within the Marine Special Operation Command community aboard Camp Lejeune. In July 2017 Gunnery Sergeant Gamez received orders to Combat Logistics Battalion 3, Marine Corps Base Hawaii to serve at the Battalion Utility Chief. In March 2018 he was promoted to First Sergeant and assigned to Headquarters and Service Company as the Company First Sergeant.

    In November 2018 First Sergeant Gamez was assigned as the Company First Sergeant for Company A, 1st Battalion, 3d Marine Regiment. Deploying as part of Unit Deployment Program Hawaii in December 2018, and 2020 with Headquarters and Service Company which included exercises in Japan and South Korea.

    In February 2021 First Sergeant Gamez was assigned to Combat Assault Company, 3d Marine Regiment where he led the talent management and relocation efforts during the company deactivation mandated by 2030 Force Design.

    In October 2021 First Sergeant Gamez was assigned to Marine Wing Support Squadron 371, to serve as First Sergeant Headquarters and Service Company. Sergeant Major Gamez was promoted to his current rank in January 2022 and was assigned to Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 211 in which he currently serves today.

    Sergeant Major Gamez's personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with three gold stars in lieu of fourth award, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two gold stars in lieu of third award and the Combat Action Ribbon.
