Lieutenant Colonel Hoffmann

Commanding Officer, Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 363

Lieutenant Colonel Hoffmann enlisted in the Marine Corps in April 1990 and trained as a Combat Engineer while assigned to Charlie Company, 6th Engineer Support Battalion, 4th Marine Division.  During his eight year tenure he was activated for Desert Storm/Shield and participated in several exercises, including Joint Task Force exercises in Albania and Jamaica.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science/Minor Business finance from Illinois State University.  Following graduation, He remained with Charlie Company and was promoted to Staff Sergeant before attending Officer Candidates School in Quantico Virginia.

He graduated from The Basic School in April 1999. Upon TBS graduation, he reported to NAS Pensacola for flight training and was designated Naval Aviator #26056 in April of 2001.

After earning his wings, First Lieutenant Hoffmann reported to HMM(T) 164 at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California, for initial training in the CH-46E. In August of 2001, First Lieutenant Hoffmann was assigned to HMM – 163 “Evil Eyes” where he initially served as the Squadron Adjutant.  He was promoted to Captain in November 2002 and deployed with HMM 163 (REIN) as part of ESG 1/13th MEU (SOC) in support of the global War on Terror and Operation Sweeny in Southern Iraqi.  Upon returning from that deployment Capt Hoffmann attended Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron One and designated a Weapons and Tactics Instructor.  Returning to the squadron as the Flight Line OIC and Tactics Officer he completed two additional tours with the 13th MEU in support of multiple international exercises including Bright Star in Egypt and Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2005 and 2007.

Major Hoffmann was promoted in November 2008 and served in the I MEF  G-7 as the Deputy Director of I MEF Tactical Exercise Control Group (TECG) supporting the certification exercises (CERTEX) for all I MEF Marine Expeditionary Units.  In June of 2010, Major Hoffmann transferred to MCAS Miramar for transition training in the MV-22 Osprey and served as the Executive Officer of VMM 561 “Pale Horse”.  Upon completion of his duties he was transferred to VMM-166 (REIN) “Sea Elk” and served as the 13th MEU ACE OPSO for WESTPAC 13-2.  Upon returning from the 13th MEU, Lieutenant Colonel Hoffmann served as the OPSO for MAG-16 and was selected as Commanding Officer for VMM-363.    Lieutenant Colonel Hoffmann’s personal awards include the Air Medal with Strike/Flight numeral Five, (3) Navy Commendation Medals, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
