Marines and Sailors with the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing (MAW) participated in the Relationships, Parenting and Marriage Exposition aboard Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California, May 11.

The expo provided Marines, Sailors and their families with resources related to parenting, marriage and relationships from secular and faith-based organizations.

“The idea of this function is to provide something free for all of our Marines and Sailors at 3rd MAW,” said Petty Officer 1st Class Ryan Boggs, a religious program specialist with Marine Aircraft Group (MAG) 16. “The resources will range to ones dealing with relationships, those who are parents and may be looking for parenting resources, and also for Marines who are married and may be looking for something to enrich their marriage or resources to bolster their marriage.”

Participants were able to visit approximately 50 booths offering resources from Marine Corps Community Services, local churches, the Airmen and Marine Memorial Chapel and parenting programs.

According to Boggs, the goal of the expo was to provide 3rd MAW Marines and Sailors with resources to prevent the spread of relationship, marriage and parenting issues.

“Events like this are important for the Marine Corps because it adds a human side to what you have to do. You are a Marine first and foremost, but you’re also a man, woman, father, mother or husband,” said Cpl. Ottis Edgecomb, the future operations noncommissioned officer in charge with Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron (MWHS) 3. “There are a lot of things that these programs do that help that man, that father, that wife, that mother.”
