Sergeant Major Richard H. Troncatti II was born in Hagerstown, Maryland in 1981. In August 1999, he entered the Marine Corps and conducted recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island. Upon graduation, he attended Marine Combat Training and Basic Engineer Equipment Operator Course.
In April 2000, he reported to Support Company, 1st Transportation Support Battalion, 1st Force Service Support Group. In August 2001, he deployed aboard the USS DEBUQUE in support of the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, participating in Task Force 58, later named Operation Enduring Freedom. In June 2003, he deployed with the Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force, Maritime Prepositioning Force to Camp Fox, Kuwait in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom I. In February 2004, he deployed with Brigade Service Support Group 1 to Camp Al Taqqadum, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II. During this tour he was promoted through the ranks to Sergeant.
In October 2005, he reported to Drill Instructor School, Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego. Upon graduation he served as a Drill Instructor with Company H, 2d Recruit Training Battalion, Drill Instructor and Senior Drill Instructor with Support Training Company, Senior Drill Instructor with Receiving Company, Support Battalion, and a Senior Drill Instructor with Company A, 1st Recruit Training Battalion. During this tour he was promoted to Staff Sergeant.
In December 2008, he reported to Engineer Company, Marine Wing Support Squadron 372, Marine Wing Support Group 39, 3d Marine Aircraft Wing where he served as the Company Gunnery Sergeant. In September 2009, he deployed to Camp Dwyer, Afghanistan where he participated in Operation Moshtarak in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 9.2.
In May 2011, he reported to Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps, The Pennsylvania State University, where he served as the Assistant Marine Officer Instructor. He also subsequently served throughout the summers as a Sergeant Instructor, Platoon Sergeant, and Company Gunnery Sergeant at Officer Candidates School. During this tour has was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant.
In August 2014, he reported to Marine Wing Support Squadron 371, Marine Aircraft Group 13, 3d Marine Aircraft Wing where he served as the Company First Sergeant for Company B and Headquarters and Service Company.
In April 2015, he deployed to Isa Air Base, Bahrain in support of Operation Inherent Resolve 15.2. In February 2016, he was appointed to the rank of First Sergeant.
In April 2016, he reported to 3d Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division where he served as the Senior Enlisted Leader for Company I. In October 2016, he deployed in support of Unit Deployment Program 17.1, participating in the Korean Military Exchange Program. In September 2017, he was reassigned to Headquarters and Service Company. In August 2018, he deployed aboard the USS ANCHORAGE with Battalion Landing Team 3/1, 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit in support of WESTPAC 18.2.
In April 2019, he reported to 3d Recruit Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego serving as the Senior Enlisted Leader for Company I. In May 2020, he was appointed to his current rank and assigned as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader for Support Battalion.
In December 2020, he reported to Marine Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Squadron 1, Marine Aircraft Group 13, 3d Marine Aircraft Wing assuming the duties as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader. In March 2022, he was reassigned to Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 225. In July 2024, he deployed aboard the USS BOXER as part of the Aviation Combat Element with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit in support of WESTPAC 24.1. In May 2025, he was reassigned to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 13.
Sergeant Major Troncatti's personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (third award), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (third award), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (second award), and the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.
