Lieutenant Colonel Andrew J. Norris

Lieutenant Colonel Norris grew up in Plano, TX and graduated from Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas in 1996.  He was awarded an NROTC Marine option scholarship and attended Texas A&M University where he was a member of the Corps of Cadets.  In 2000, Second Lieutenant Norris was commissioned upon graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Distribution.  He attended The Basic School later that year, and then reported to flight training in Pensacola, FL in 2001.

In November of 2002 First Lieutenant Norris was designated a naval aviator and reported to HMM(T)-164 for initial training in the CH-46E “Battle Phrog”.  During his initial fleet tour at MCAS New River with the “Thunder Chickens” of HMM-263, First Lieutenant Norris participated in the 24th MEU in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II 2004-2005 as the embark officer.  After returning from that deployment he was selected to transition to the MV-22 Osprey and help stand up the first fleet squadron, VMM-263. 

Captain Norris deployed with VMM-263 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2007-2008 as the Pilot Training Officer.  Upon return he attended Weapons and Tactics Instructor (WTI) course 2-08, the first class of MV-22 WTI’s.  In 2009 Captain Norris deployed with VMM-263(REIN) 22nd MEU aboard the USS Bataan as the Assistant Maintenance Officer. 

In 2010 he reported to Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron 1 (MAWTS-1) and served as an MV-22 instructor pilot, Enhanced Mojave Viper assessment coordinator, and MV-22 Division Head.  After completing his tour at MAWTS-1 in 2013, Major Norris reported to the “Greyhawks” of VMM-161 as the Operations Officer and remained in the billet for two years.  In 2015, he participated in a 15th MEU deployment aboard the USS Essex as the Air Combat Element (ACE) Executive Officer. 

Major Norris was selected to participate in the Congressional Fellowship program and reported to the USMC Office of Legislative Affairs at the Pentagon in 2016.  He served in the House of Representatives as a military and veteran’s affairs advisor for Representative K. Michael Conaway (TX-11) in 2017.

In September 2018 Lieutenant Colonel Norris assumed his current duties as the Commanding Officer of the “Evil Eyes” of VMM-163.

Lieutenant Colonel Norris’s personal awards include the Air Medal with combat distinguishing device and strike flight numeral 8,  Navy and Marine Corps Commendation medal (w/ two gold stars), and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement medal (w/ gold star).
