Gunnery Sergeant Korey H. Norman

Gunnery Sergeant Norman enlisted in the Marine Corps April 7, 2008, and attended Recruit Training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Paris Island, South Carolina. Upon graduation, Private First Class Norman attended Marine Combat Training aboard Camp Geiger, North Carolina. In August of 2008, Private First Class Norman reported to Naval Air Technical Training Center Pensacola, Florida for the Aviation Ordnance Technician Organizational Level Course, where he received the MOS of 6531. In October he attended the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Marine Unit, Camp Pendleton California, where he was selected as the honor graduate and subsequently meritoriously promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal.

In December 2008, Lance Corporal Norman reported to Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 366, Marine Aircraft Group 29, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point. While there, Lance Corporal Norman was deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In December of 2010, Corporal Norman was selected as the Non-Commissioned Officer of the Quarter of Marine Aircraft Group-29, and meritoriously promoted to Sergeant on 2 February 2011. From July of 2011 through January 2012, he deployed to Camp Lemonier, Djibouti Africa in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

In June 2012, Sergeant Norman executed orders to Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 152, Marine Aircraft Group 36, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing. While there, he assumed duties as Non-commissioned Officer in charge of the entire Avionics Division and participated in training exercises around the Indo-Pacific region. In 2013, he successfully completed the Marine Corps instructor of Water Survival School and aggressively trained Marines throughout III MEF. In 2014 and in 2015, he was selected as the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, Non-Commissioned Officer of the Quarter.

In October of 2015, Sergeant Norman checked into Marine Light Attack Helicopter Unit 369, Marine Aircraft Group 39, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing. The following month, he was promoted to Staff Sergeant and assumed duties as the Ordnance Line Chief. Staff Sergeant Norman executed several deployments for training to Marine Corps Air Ground Combat center 29 Palms, MCAS Yuma, and NAS El Centro. In November of 2017, he deployed as part of the Unit Deployment Program to Okinawa, Japan where he participated in exercise Cobra Gold, and the Korean Military Exercise Program (KMEP). Upon return, he supported Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course 2-18, as the Staff-Noncommissioned Officer in Charge of the Ordnance Division.

Staff Sergeant Norman reported to Marine Corps Installations Pacific, Marine Corps Base Camp Butler, Okinawa Japan, December 2018, where he served as Senior Faculty Advisor, and Chief Faculty Advisor for Sergeant School. Through this time, he was instrumental in the implementation of the new enlisted curriculum and mentored over 1400 students. In the fall of 2020, he was chosen to be the Academics Officer for the Staff Noncommissioned Officer Academy, serving as the direct representation of the College of Enlisted Military Education.

Gunnery Sergeant Norman was promoted to his current rank in July of 2021. On January 15, 2022, GySgt Norman checked into Marine Light Attack Helicopter Unit 169, Marine Aircraft Group 39, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing . During 2022, he served as the Senior enlisted leader for Rim of the Pacific, the Ordnance Chief of WTI 1-23, and later, SLTE 2-23. In the spring of 2023 he deployed to UDP 2-23 in Okinawa Japan supporting various exercises throughout Indo-Pacom. Upon his return in November of that year, GySgt Norman was selected to serve as the MAG39 Headquarters Squadron 1stSgt where he is currently serving.

Gunnery Sergeant Norman has a bachelors of science in organizational leadership and his personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with three gold stars in lieu of fourth award..
