Sergeant Major Laca, a native of Conway, Arkansas, enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on 22 May 2008. He began his career at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California, where he completed recruit training, followed by Marine Combat Training at the School of Infantry -West, Camp Pendleton, California. Upon assignment as a Maintenance Management Specialist (MOS 0411), he attended Logistics Operations School at Camp Johnson, North Carolina.
Excelling early in his career, he graduated at the top of his MOS class, and in March 2009 was meritoriously promoted to Lance Corporal. He reported to 5th Battalion, 11th Marines, Camp Pendleton, California, and deployed with Romeo Battery in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM later that year. During the deployment, he was meritoriously promoted to Corporal, and the following year, he was meritoriously promoted to Sergeant. In July 2011, he was assigned to 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, Camp Pendleton, California, where he served as the Maintenance Management Noncommissioned Officer in Charge.
In July 2012, Sergeant Major Laca attended Drill Instructor School, Class 4-12, at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California. Following graduation, he joined Company L, 3d Recruit Training Battalion, where he served with distinction as a Drill Instructor, Experienced Drill Instructor, and Senior Drill Instructor, directly shaping the next generation of Marines. Upon his promotion to Staff Sergeant in March 2015, Sergeant Major Laca reported to Combat Logistics Battalion 13, Camp Pendleton, California, where he served as the Battalion Maintenance Management Chief. During this tour, he deployed with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit in support of Western Pacific 16-1, providing critical sustainment and logistical expertise.
He continued his career at 2d Law Enforcement Battalion, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, in December 2017 as the Battalion Maintenance Management Chief. Upon his selection to Gunnery Sergeant, in November 2018 he reported to Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron 2, Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina, where he served as the G-4 Maintenance Management Chief, overseeing maintenance management operations for 15 subordinate units in support of the Wing.
In August 2021, he reported to Headquarters Battalion, 3d Marine Division, Okinawa, Japan, where he served as the Battalion Maintenance Management Chief. Upon his selection to First Sergeant, in May 2022 he assumed duties as the Unit Senior Enlisted Leader for Counterintelligence/Human Intelligence Company and later Operations Company, 3d Intelligence Battalion, Okinawa, Japan.
In July 2024, Sergeant Major Laca reported to 1st Recruit Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California, where he served as the Unit Senior Enlisted Leader for Company D, overseeing the leadership, welfare, and development of both Drill Instructors and recruits.
Sergeant Major Laca was frocked to his current rank in April 2026 and reported to Marine Air Control Squadron 1, Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California, where he is currently serving as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader.
Sergeant Major Laca's personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (gold star in lieu of fourth award) and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (gold star in lieu of fourth award).
