Sergeant Major Alexander Caro is a native of Brooklyn, New York. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on 11 July 2005 and attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina. Upon graduating as a Private First Class (PFC), he reported to Marine Combat Training (MCT) at Camp Geiger, North Carolina. He subsequently attended the Enlisted Basic Warehouse Course at Camp Johnson, North Carolina, earning the military occupational specialty (MOS) 3051, Basic Warehouseman.
Following MOS school, PFC Caro reported to Combat Logistics Regiment 17, 1st Marine Logistics Group, Camp Pendleton, California, where he served as a Warehouse and Personal Effects Clerk.
In August 2006, Lance Corporal Caro deployed to Iraq in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM, serving with a Provisional Security Platoon out of Al-Taqaddum Air Base, Al Anbar Province. Upon returning in March 2007, he received temporary assignment duty orders to I MEF, G-1 via March Air Reserve Base, Moreno Valley, California, where he served as a Manifest Clerk, supporting deployments and redeployments for Operation IRAQI FREEDOM and Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.
In May 2008, Corporal Caro reported to Marine Security Guard (MSG) School, Class 4-08, Marine Corps Embassy Security Group, Quantico, Virginia. He graduated in July 2008, earning the MOS 8156, Marine Security Guard. His MSG assignments included U.S. Embassies in Doha, Qatar; Athens, Greece; and Abuja, Nigeria.
Upon completion of MSG duty, Sergeant Caro reported to 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, California, in July 2011, where he served as the Battalion Supply Warehouse Chief, supporting multiple training exercises in preparation for deployment.
In June 2012, Sgt Caro laterally moved to the MOS 0431, Embarkation Logistics Specialist. He volunteered to deploy to Afghanistan in November 2012 in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM, serving at Camp Leatherneck with the Redeployment and Retrograde in Support of Reset and Reconstitution Operations Group (R4OG) as an Embarkation Chief. Upon returning, Staff Sergeant (SSgt) Caro completed the Basic Logistics Embarkation Course at Camp Johnson from August to September 2013.
In November 2013, SSgt Caro reported to Marine Corps Security Cooperation Group (MCSCG), Virginia Beach, Virginia. Initially assigned as the S-4 Embarkation Chief, he was later appointed Logistics Chief for NORTHCOM/SOUTHCOM Coordination Liaison Assessment Training Teams. From May 2014 to November 2015, he served as a Foreign Security Force Advisor, conducting missions across Latin America.
In December 2015, SSgt Caro reported to 2d Marine Raider Support Battalion, Logistics Company, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, and assumed duties as Logistics Chief for Logistics Support Team F, later attached to Marine Special Operations Company F, 2d Marine Raider Battalion. He deployed to Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar, in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE.
In December 2017, Gunnery Sergeant (GySgt) Caro reported to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 164 (VMM-164), Marine Aircraft Group 39, Camp Pendleton, where he served as Squadron Gunnery Sergeant and Logistics Chief. He supported numerous exercises and deployed to Al Jaber Air Base, Kuwait, in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE with Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force–Crisis Response–Central Command (SPMAGTF-CR-CC) 18.2.
Upon redeployment, GySgt Caro was selected for promotion to First Sergeant (1stSgt). In October 2019, he was frocked to 1stSgt and transferred to 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines, Camp Pendleton, where he served as Company L First Sergeant. He again deployed to Al Jaber Air Base in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE with SPMAGTF-CR-CC 21.1.
In May 2021, 1stSgt Caro reported to Expeditionary Warfare Training Group Pacific (EWTGPAC), Coronado, California, serving as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader.
In February 2024, he was frocked to the rank of Sergeant Major and assumed his current assignment as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader for Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 122 (VMFA-122), Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, Arizona.
Sergeant Major Caro currently serves as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader for Marine Air Control Squadron (MACS) 1, Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, Arizona.
Sergeant Major Caro holds a Bachelor of Arts in Social and Criminal Justice from Ashford University. His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with one gold star, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two gold stars.
