Sergeant Major Martin Grew up in Syracuse New York and graduated from Cicero North Syracuse High School in June 2001.
​Sergeant Major Martin enlisted in the Marine Corps August 2001 and went boot camp on December 04, 2001, completing recruit training at MCRD Parris Island, South Carolina. Following recruit training Private Martin attended School of Infantry, Infantry Training Battalion East, Company B and Graduated with the MOS of 0341 Infantry Mortarman. Upon graduation Private Martin attended Marine Corps Security Force Training Company, Marine Corps Security Force Battalion where he was promoted to Private First Class and graduated with the MOS 8152, Marine Security Guard.

​Private First Class Martin then reported to 1st Fleet Anti-Terrorism Security Team Company, 2nd Platoon, in June 2002. During his time as a Marine Security Guard, Private First Class Martin served as a Rifleman, Saw Gunner and Team leader. In September 2003, Lance Corporal Martin Deployed Rota, Spain and took part in Operation Endeavor along the Straights of Gibraltar, serving as Trailer Platoon for SEAL Team 2. 

Corporal Martin reported to 3rd Battalion 5th Marines and was assigned to Weapons Company 81's Platoon, there he served as squad leader. In August 2004 Corporal Martin deployed to Fallujah, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 2 and took part in Operation Phantom Fury. In January 2006 Sergeant Martin deployed to Iraq again in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 5-7.
​Sergeant Martin attended Marine Combat Instructor Course and graduated with the MOS 0913. Assigned to Company C, Infantry Training Battalion West to serve as a rifle platoon instructor. Sergeant Martin attended the Infantry Machine Gunner's Course and obtained the MOS 0331.  In July 2009, Staff Sergeant Martin was assigned as chief instructor, Infantry Mortars. In October, 2009 Staff Sergeant Martin attended Infantry Unit Leaders Course, upon graduation, 

Staff Sergeant Martin reported to 1st Battalion 3rd Marines in April 2010, Staff Sergeant Martin was assigned to Weapons Company, Combined Anti-Armor Platoon 1 where he served as Platoon Sergeant. In April 2011, Staff Sergeant Martin Deployed to Afghanistan, Garmsir District, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 11-1 where he continued to serve as platoon sergeant, CAAT1. Staff Sergeant Martin deployed in support of UDP to Okinawa Japan in November 2012, participating in numerous bi-lateral training operations in Thailand, Philippines and Korea.

Staff Sergeant Martin reported to EWTGPAC San Diego to serve in Billet, RAID Instructor, and Amphibious Raid Branch in November 2013. Staff Sergeant Martin was assigned Maritime Navigation Chief instructor and MCIWS lead instructor. In August 2015, he was Promoted to Gunnery Sergeant and assumed the Billet of Chief instructor, RAID branch SNCOIC where he managed the Coxswains, Scout Swimmer, Maritime Navigation, and MCIWS courses. 

Gunnery Sergeant Martin executed orders to SOI West to fill the billet of Company Gunnery Sergeant HSCO, HSQPT BN, SOI W. Gunnery Sergeant Martin where he managed the training and support for the three training battalions. 

Gunnery Sergeant Martin executed orders to Bravo Company, 1st battalion 6th Marines where he serves as Company Gunnery Sergeant. In April 2018 Gunnery Sergeant Martin deployed to Norway in support of Marine Rotational Force 18.1.  Upon return of deployment Gunnery Sergeant Martin was selected to First Sergeant. He received orders to remain in 1st Battalion 6th Marines. First Sergeant Martin served as the Company First Sergeant for Weapons Company, 1st Battalion 6th Marines. In February 2020 First Sergeant Martin deployed to Okinawa, Japan in support of UDP. 

First Sergeant Martin executed orders to Marine Corps Engineer School where he served as the Utilities Instruction Company First Sergeant where he supervised the processing, training, and certification of Utilities Engineer students in entry level and advanced training courses. First Sergeant Martin was selected to attend the US Army Sergeants Major Academy. 

Sergeant Major Martin is a graduate of US Army Sergeants Major Academy, class 73. Upon graduation Sergeant Major Marine reported to Marine Air Control Group 48, Marine Air Control Group Squadron 1 to serve as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader. 
Sergeant Major Martin's awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (6th award), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (4th Award), and the Combat Action Ribbon.
