Major Joseph A. Peraino

Major Peraino was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1990. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on 16 June 2008 and attended recruit training at MCRD Parris Island, South Carolina. Maj Peraino completed recruit training and all subsequent training to include Marine Combat Training, Leadership Education and Development, and Aviation Maintenance Administration School to receive the MOS 6046.

From March 2009 to October 2010, Maj Peraino served with Marine Wing Support Squadron 472, Detachment B. While assigned there, he executed multiple billets to include Expeditionary Airfield, Aircraft Rescue and Fire, and Airfield Operations and Security. Maj Peraino deployed with MWSS-472 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

From November 2010 to January 2013, Maj Peraino served with Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 773 in the reserves. While assigned there, he executed the duties of Aviation Maintenance Administration and served as the NALCOMIS administrator for all members of HMLA-773. This was the first time that MAJ Peraino had worked with Marine Attack and Utility helicopters and set the stage for his decision to become a Pilot.

While serving in the reserves, Maj Peraino enrolled into Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and attended classes on Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, South Carolina. During this time, he was selected for the Platoon Leadership Course and attended Officer Candidate School on Brown Field, Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia. Maj Peraino graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Professional Aeronautics in December 2012.

Maj Peraino commissioned in the Marine Corps on 19 January 2013 and attended The Basic School on MCB Quantico from October 2013 to May 2014. Upon completion, he was then stationed in Pensacola, Florida, where all Naval Aviators begin their training.

From May 2014 to March 2016, Maj Peraino was stationed with Marine Aviation Training Support Group 21. He trained and qualified in the Beechcraft T-6 Texan II military fixed wing training aircraft. Once selected to become a helicopter pilot, he trained and qualified in the TH-57 rotary wing training aircraft, and upon successful completion of the rotary wing syllabus was selected to the AH-1W flight program.

From April 2016 to October 2016, Maj Peraino executed flight training and qualification in the Bell AH-1W rotary wing aircraft. During this time, he served as the S-4 facilities and grounds Officer. At the completion of training, Maj Peraino was designated a Pilot Qualified in Model, and executed orders to Marine Air Group 29, Marine Corps Air Station New River, North Carolina.

From 15 October 2016, Maj Peraino was assigned to Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 269 for duty as an AH-1W Pilot. While assigned with HMLA-269, he served as the Legal Officer, S-5 OIC, Substance Abuse and Control Officer, Voting and Education Officer, Unit Readiness Coordinator, Airframes Division Officer, Assistant Operations Officer, and Current Operations Officer. He successfully completed the conversion training syllabus and qualified in the AH-1Z Viper rotary wing aircraft and served as an instructor qualified as the senior Weapons Training Officer.

From April 2022, Maj Peraino received orders to 2d Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company (ANGLICO). He graduated the Tactical Air Control Party course from Expeditionary Warfare Training Group Atlantic then checked into the unit. Maj Peraino completed the designation syllabus with 2d ANGLICO and was designated as a Forward Air Controller shortly after. Maj Peraino took over as the Operations Brigade Platoon Commander, an 0802 Artillery Major's billet. Maj Peraino served as the Operations Brigade Platoon Commander for a period of one year, responsible for three Supporting Arms Liaison Teams, and six Firepower Control Teams.

In June of 2023, Maj Peraino transitioned to the position of Executive Officer of 2d ANGLICO. Maj Peraino served as the Executive Officer for a period of one year, focusing on Brigade Platoon restructure, the Commanding Generals Readiness Inspection, and deploying in support of exercise Nordic Response 2024 where Maj Peraino served as the Finnish 3d Division Fires Cell Coordinator and senior Marine in Finland.

In June of 2024, Maj Peraino was assigned to the position of Executive Officer of MWSS-372 where he immediately took charge of the Camp Pendleton Detachment leading the preparations for Logistics Readiness Evaluations while the unit was forward executing Service Level Training Exercise.
