Major Michael K. Propheter

Maj Michael Propheter graduated from Saint Louis University in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical Science.  Via the Platoon Leaders Course, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in December 2006.  Upon commissioning, he served as the Assistant Officer Selection Officer of Officer Selection Station Chicago, IL until reporting to The Basic School in June 2007. 

Following completion of TBS in December 2007, 2ndLt Propheter reported to Marine Aviation Training Support Group 21 aboard Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola, FL to attend Aviation Preflight Indoctrination until February 2008.  2ndLt Propheter then reported to Fixed Wing Training Squadron (VT) Six aboard NAS Whiting Field for Primary Flight Training in the T-34C.  Following this training, he was assigned to VT-9 aboard NAS Meridian, MS to begin Intermediate and Advanced Jet training in the T-45C.  In December 2010, 1stLt Propheter was designated a Naval Aviator and ordered to report to Electronic Attack Squadron 129 aboard NAS Whidbey Island, WA to begin training in the EA-6B Prowler.  During this time Capt Propheter also completed Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape (SERE) in Kittery, ME. 

In April 2012, Capt Propheter completed FRS training and reported to Marine Electronic Attack Squadron Three (VMAQ-3) aboard Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point, NC.  From April 2012 to September 2014 Capt Propheter participated in one Red Flag Exercise at Air Force Base Nellis, Nevada, two augment detachments in support of Weapons and Tactics Instructor Courses in Yuma, Arizona and two deployments to U.S. Central Command supporting Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, Operation Inherent Resolve in Iraq and national security operations in eastern continental Africa and Iranian coastal waters.  During his time with VMAQ-3, Capt Propheter served as the squadron’s daily schedule writer, current operations officer and future operations officer.

In September 2014, Capt Propheter executed a transition package reporting to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Training Squadron 204 aboard MCAS New River, NC to conduct basic pilot training in the MV-22 Osprey.  He completed that training in January 2015 and fulfilled orders to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 261.  During his time at VMM-261, Maj Propheter executed two deployments to Moron, SP in support of Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force Crisis Response Africa (SPMAGTF-CR-AF) 15.2 and 17.2/18.1 serving as the squadron’s Operations Officer from Aug 2016 to May 2018. 

In May 2018, Maj Propheter executed orders to VMM-161 aboard MCAS Miramar where he is currently serving as the squadron’s Executive Officer.  His awards include Air Medal – Strike/Flight numeral three and one Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
