Major Kenneth W. Smith
Major Smith is a graduate of Arizona State University and completed officer candidate school receiving his commission in 2005.  An Air Support Control Officer by trade, he reported to Marine Air Support Squadron (MASS) 2, Okinawa in December 2006.  In 2007 Major Smith deployed with the 31st MEU Command Element as Landing Force Operations Center Watch Officer and Air Support Liaison Officer supporting multiple exercises in the pacific.  Upon returning to MASS-2, Major Smith served as Company Training Officer and Squadron Legal officer before assuming H&S Company Command in 2008.  Following, Major Smith was assigned as the Marine Air Control Group 18 Detachment Commander of HMM-265 (REIN) in 2009 and again deployed with the 31st MEU supporting operations throughout PACOM, including Humanitarian Assistance/ Disaster Relief missions to the Philippines and Indonesia.

In 2010 Major Smith received orders to MASS-3, Camp Pendleton, CA from where he deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM as a Senior Air Director for Regimental Command (Southwest).  Upon return, Major Smith was appointed Alpha Company Commander and in 2012 returned to Afghanistan as the Regional Command (Southwest) Direct Air Support Center Officer in Charge.  In 2013 Major Smith graduated from MAWTS-1’s Weapons and Tactics Instructor (WTI) course in Yuma, AZ and in 2014 from Expeditionary Warfare School, Quantico, VA.  Upon graduation, Major Smith reported to Newcastle Australia as the Air Support Control Exchange Officer to 44 Wing, Royal Australian Air Force, where he served as Tactical Operations Officer 3 and earned his qualification and certification as Joint Terminal Attack Controller. 

In 2017, Major Smith returned to MASS-3 to assume the responsibilities of Squadron Operations Officer until July 2018, from where he deployed to the Combined Air Operations Center for U.S. Central Command serving as Deputy Marine Liaison Officer.  In February 2019 Major Smith assumed his current duties as the MASS-3 Executive Officer.

Major Smith holds the additional MOSs of 7277 (WTI) and 8228 Regional Affairs Officer; his personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with gold star in lieu of second award and the Royal Australian Air Force Chief of Air Force Gold Commendation Medal.
