Sergeant Major Velasquez enlisted in the Marine Corps on June 20, 2005. He attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, CA. After graduating recruit training he attended the School of Infantry at Camp Pendleton, CA. He graduated the Light Armored Vehicle (LAV) Crewman Course where he gained the MOS of 0313.
Sergeant Major Velasquez received orders to Second Light Armored Reconnaissance (LAR) Battalion. He deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2006 as a driver with Alpha Company and again in 2007 with the Battalion serving as a Vehicle Commander.
In July 2009, Sergeant Major Velasquez received orders to MCRD San Diego, CA for duty as a Drill Instructor. Upon completion of class 4-09, Sergeant Major Velasquez was assigned to Lima Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion where he completed nine cycles, holding the billets of Drill Instructor, Experience Drill Instructor and Senior Drill Instructor. He was then transferred to Support Battalion where he held additional billets as S-4 Drill Instructor, Basic Marine Platoon Sergeant, and Medical liaison. In January of 2012, he was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Sergeant Major Velasquez reported back to Second Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion in July of 2013 where he was assigned as a Platoon Sergeant for Headquarters Platoon, Charlie Company. In February 2014, he deployed with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit. In July 2015, Sergeant Major Velasquez was attached to the Georgian Liaison Team (GLT), where he served as a Senior Infantry Advisor. In April 2016, Sergeant Major Velasquez held the billet of S3 Training Chief for 2nd LAR Battalion where he was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant.
Sergeant Major Velasquez reported to 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion in December of 2016. He was assigned to Delta Company, Second Platoon where he served as Platoon Sergeant. Upon the deactivation of Delta Company in October 2017, Sergeant Major Velasquez was reassigned to Bravo Company. On July 8, 2018, Sergeant Major Velasquez deployed with Bravo Company, Battalion Landing Team 3/1, in support of the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit.
In July 2019 Sergeant Major Velasquez reported back to Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, CA. He was assigned to 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, India Company where he completed 2 cycles. On February 21, 2020 Sergeant Major Velasquez was frocked to the rank of First Sergeant and assumed responsibilities as the Company First Sergeant Kilo Company 3rd Recruit Training Battalion.
Sergeant Major Velasquez reported to 3d Supply Battalion, 3d Sustainment Group (Experimental), 3d Marine Logistics Group, Okinawa, Japan on December 2021. He was assigned to Ammunition Company where he served as the Company First Sergeant.
Sergeant Major Velasquez reported to 3d Maintenance Battalion, 3d Sustainment Group (Experimental), 3d Marine Logistics Group, Okinawa, Japan on January 2023, where he served as the Battalion Sergeant Major.
Sergeant Major Velasquez reported to Marine Air Control Squadron 4 on MCAS Futenma Okinawa Japan on January 2024, where he was assigned as the Air Traffic Control Company K First Sergeant.
Sergeant Major Velasquez was frocked to the rank of Sergeant Major on February 24, 2025, Sergeant Major Velasquez reported to Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 314 on April 18, 2025 where he serves as the Squadron Sergeant Major.
Sergeant Major Velasquez’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal in Lieu of third award, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
Sergeant Major Velasquez is married to Perla Ruelas and has 3 children: Francisco E. Velasquez, Izaiah R. Velasquez and Kayla Ruelas.
