Sergeant Major, Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 314
Sergeant Major Nibardo Serrano III

Sergeant Major Serrano was born in Bellflower, California, in January of 1981. He enlisted and attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California in January of 2000.  Upon completion he attended Marine Combat Training at Camp Pendleton followed by attending his MOS school of Basic Warehouseman, at Camp Johnson, North Carolina.
 
Sergeant Major Serrano reported to Marine Air Group 36 in August of 2000 serving as a Warehouse Clerk and Warehouse NCO.  He deployed in support of Korean Marine Exchange Program, 2001, and Balikatan, in 2002.  In August of 2003 he was assigned to Marine Air Control Squadron 4, Marine Air Control Group 18, and served as a Warehouse NCO.  In August of 2004 Sergeant Major Serrano reported to 3d Assault Amphibian Battalion, 1st Marine Division, and served as the Warehouse Chief and deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in September of 2005.
 
In July of 2007, Sergeant Major Serrano received orders to Drill Instructor School, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina.  Upon graduation, Sergeant Major Serrano was assigned to 1st Recruit Training Battalion where he served as a Drill Instructor and Senior Drill Instructor.  
 
In September of 2010, Sergeant Major Serrano received orders to Marine Corps Communication-Electronics School where he served as the Warehouse Chief and Company Gunnery Sergeant for Headquarters Company.  In May of 2013 Sergeant Major Serrano received orders for assignment as Assistant Marine Officer Instructor at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, serving in part of the Navy Reserve Officer Training Corps program.  He also served as Sergeant Instructor at Officer Candidates School in the summers of 2013-2015.
 
In July of 2016, Sergeant Major Serrano was then transferred to 3d Supply Battalion, Combat Logistics Regiment 35, and served as the Operations Chief and Company Gunnery Sergeant.  In February of 2019 he was then transferred to 3d Reconnaissance Battalion, where he served as the Company First Sergeant.  In March of 2021 he was then transferred to 2d Battalion, 11th Marines, and served as the Battery First Sergeant; he deployed to Okinawa, Japan attached to Battalion Landing Team 2/5, in support of theater operations in the United States Indo-Pacific Command, aboard the USS New-Orleans (LPD-18) with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit.
 
Sergeant Major Serrano's personal awards include Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (with two gold stars), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (with one gold star), Combat Action Ribbon and the Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.
