LtCol Stephen R. Miggins

LtCol Miggins was born in Chicago, Illinois. He attended the United States Naval Academy, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Systems Engineering in May 2006. Following commissioning, 2nd Lt Miggins completed The Basic School and flight school. He was designated a Naval Aviator in July 2009.

After completing F/A-18 transition training in Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron 101 at MCAS Miramar in December 2010, he joined the “Red Devils” of Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 232. During his initial tour, Captain Miggins served as the Schedules Officer, Flight Officer, Logistics Officer, and Quality Assurance Officer. He deployed twice with VMFA-232 as part of the Unit Deployment Program (UDP) to Iwakuni, Japan. In June 2013, Captain Miggins completed the MAWTS-1 Marine Division Tactics Course (MDTC).

In October 2014, Captain Miggins reported to 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines at MCB Camp Pendleton, where he served as the Battalion Air Officer. During this tour, he deployed with the 15th MEU aboard USS Essex in 2015.

In October 2016, Major Miggins completed F-35B transition training and reported to the “Wake Island Avengers” of VMFA-211. There he served as the Schedules Officer, Flight Officer, Pilot Training Officer, and Operations Officer. He deployed with VMFA-211 as part of the 13th MEU aboard USS Essex in July 2018. During the inaugural F-35 combat deployment, Major Miggins flew numerous missions in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel and Operation Inherent Resolve. In May 2019, Major Miggins completed the MAWTS-1 Weapons and Tactics Instructor (WTI) course.

From June 2021 through June 2023, LtCol Miggins was assigned as an inter-service exchange pilot at the United States Air Force Weapons School, 6th Weapons Squadron at Nellis AFB, NV. There he served as the Air-to-Ground Phase Commander for the F-35A Weapons Instructor Course.

LtCol Miggins’ personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal (2nd Award), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation with gold star in lieu of second award, Naval and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with gold star in lieu of second award, and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, (4th Award). Additionally, LtCol Miggins has accrued over 2,000 mishap free flight hours.
