Lieutenant Colonel John D. Park

Lieutenant Colonel John Park began his Marine Corps career in August 2001, at recruit training at MCRD San Diego, CA. Following completion of bootcamp, LtCol Park attended aviation power plants A-School at NAS Pensacola, FL and AV-8B engine mechanic C-School at MCAS Cherry Point, NC. In August 2002, LtCol Park reported to his first duty assignment at Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 13 in Yuma, AZ.

From 2002 to 2006 LtCol Park served as an AV-8B power plant mechanic, deploying with Marine Attack Squadron 513 on the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit as a Collateral Duty Inspector during Operation Iraqi Freedom. LtCol Park ended active duty in August 2006 after serving as the AV-8B Test Cell Work Center Supervisor and Test Cell Instructor.

In October 2006, LtCol Park went to Officer Candidate School and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant. Upon completion of the Basic School, LtCol Park attended the Aircraft Maintenance Officer Course at NAS Whiting Field, FL. From 2007 to 2010, LtCol Park served as the Assistant Aircraft Maintenance Officer for Marine Attack Squadron 211. The squadron deployed in 2009 in as part of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit.

In May 2010, LtCol Park reported to Eglin Air Force Base, FL where he worked on the initial stand up of the F-35 program for the Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, and international partners. In 2013 he attended the Expeditionary Warfare School (EWS) in Quantico, VA, and upon completion, he received orders to Marine Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Squadron 1 in Twentynine Palms, CA. While at Marine Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Squadron 1, he served as the Aircraft Maintenance Officer and introduced into service the RQ-7B v2 and RQ-21 unmanned aircraft systems. During this tour, he also became a 0540 Space Operations Staff Officer.

In June 2016, LtCol Park attended the Naval Post Graduate School where he earned a Master of Business Administration. Subsequently, LtCol Park was assigned to HQMC where he served as the Air Combat Element Branch Head and a Logistics Capability Analyst within the Total Force Structure Division at Capabilities Development and Integration. In 2019, LtCol Park completed a fellowship with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. 

In January 2020, LtCol Park reported to Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron 502 at MCAS Beaufort, SC where he served the Aircraft Maintenance Officer for the activation of the squadron and follow on unit relocation to MCAS Miramar, CA.

In June 2023, LtCol Park reported to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 11 at MCAS Miramar, CA where he is currently serving as the Commanding Officer.

LtCol Park's personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (4th award), Air Force Commendation Medal, and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Aviation Management from Southern Illinois University, a Master of Science in Operations Management from the University of Arkansas, a Master of Business Administration from the Naval Postgraduate School, and a Postgrad Certificate in Space Systems from the Naval Postgraduate School. LtCol Park is married to the former Megan M. Cross and has a son and two daughters.
