Major Aron D. Sullivan was born in Fort Worth, Texas. In 2007 he graduated from Drake University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Corporate Finance. In October 2009 he attended Officer Candidate School. In December 2009 he commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps and reported to The Basic School. Upon completion of The Basic School in 2010 he reported to Flight School in Pensacola, Florida. First Lieutenant Sullivan was designated a Naval Aviator in August 2012.
First Lieutenant Sullivan reported to Marine Aircraft Group 39 (MAG-39) for initial training in the AH-1W at Marine Light Attack Helicopter Training Squadron 303 (HMLAT-303). In May 2013 he reported to Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 367 (HMLA-367). He deployed with HMLA-367 to Okinawa, Japan from April 2014 to November 2014 with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit.
In the summer of 2016, he was designated a Night Systems Instructor (NSI) in the AH-1W. He attended the Weapons and Tactics Instructor (WTI) Course in the spring of 2017. Captain Sullivan was hand-selected as the first HMLA-367 pilot to fly the AH-1Z helicopter. Captain Sullivan completed AH-1Z conversion training in 2017. During his time at HMLA-367 he served as a Pilot Training Officer and Assistant Aircraft Maintenance Officer.
In October 2018 Captain Sullivan was selected to serve as the Marine Aircraft Group 29 (MAG-29) Tactical Training Unit Weapons and Tactics Instructor. While assigned to the Tactical Training Unit he was responsible for the Series Conversion of HMLA-167 and HMLA-269 from the AH-1W to the AH-1Z.
In July 2020 Major Sullivan reported to Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron One (MAWTS-1). While at MAWTS-1, Major Sullivan served as the Operations Representative as well as the subject matter expert for Assault Support Escort Operations and Armored Threats.
In June 2023 Major Sullivan reported to Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 369 (HMLA-369) and immediately assumed duties as the Executive Officer. While assigned to HMLA-369 Major Sullivan deployed in support of the Unit Deployment Program (UDP) 24.1 to Okinawa Japan.
In June 2024 Major Sullivan reported to Marine Aircraft Group 39 (MAG-39) and assumed duties as the Headquarters Squadron Commanding Officer.
Major Sullivan has flown more than 2,300 mishap-free flight hours, including 1,400 flight hours in the AH-1Z and 700 in the AH-1W. His personal decorations include the Air Medal Individual Action and Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal Gold Star In lieu of Third Award.
