Commanding Officer, 3d Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion
Lieutenant Colonel Jason C. Yurisic

LtCol Yurisic is a native of Pennsylvania.  He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1999 and served as a Security Forces Marine at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, Georgia.  He is a 2004 graduate of the Pennsylvania State University and received his commission via the NROTC program. 

After completion of The Basic School and Low Altitude Air Defense (LAAD) officer course, Second Lieutenant Yurisic reported to 2nd LAAD Battalion in 2005.  He served as a Platoon Commander and deployed on the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) as the LAAD Detachment Officer in Charge (OIC).  First Lieutenant Yurisic deployed in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM while serving as a Mission Commander with Marine Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Squadron Two (VMU-2) in 2007.

Upon return from deployment, Captain Yurisic was selected for the Foreign Area Officer (FAO) program.  He graduated from the Defense Language Institute as a Dari linguist and the Naval Postgraduate School with a Master’s degree in Security Studies.  Captain Yurisic then deployed as the II Marine Expeditionary Force (MEF) FAO in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM from 2011-2012 assisting in Afghan National Security Force (ANSF) development.

Captain Yurisic reported to 3d LAAD Bn in 2012 and served as Alpha Battery Commander and Battalion Operations Officer.  During this time, he graduated from the Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course.  In 2014, Major Yurisic deployed on the 15th MEU as the Marine Air Control Group (MACG) Detachment OIC, Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 161 (VMM-161).  After the deployment, Major Yurisic attended USMC Command and Staff College.

From 2017-2020, Major Yurisic served as the Command, Control and Communications (C3) Department Head, Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron One (MAWTS-1).  In the summer of 2020, Major Yurisic began serving as the Executive Officer, MACG-38.  Lieutenant Colonel Yurisic was promoted to his current rank in October 2020 and took command of 3d LAAD Bn on 3 June 2021.

His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (w/three gold stars in lieu of 4th award), and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
