Sergeant Major Christopher J. Whitman enlisted in the Marine Corps out of Clearwater, Florida and went on to graduate from Marine
Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island in November 2000. After graduating from the School of Infantry in January 2001, he reported to 3d
Battalion, 2d Marines (3/2) for duty. In December 2001, then Lance Corporal Whitman deployed to Okinawa Japan in support of the
Unit Deployment Program. His next deployment was to Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom I, still with 3/2, but this time as a Corporal.
Sergeant Major Whitman then deployed with the 4th Marine Expeditionary Brigade as a member of the Anti-Terrorism Unit to the
Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan in 2004. Sergeant Major Whitman then deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom III in 2005.
He returned from this deployment as a Sergeant. He served in billets including 60mm Mortar Gunner, Rifle Team Leader, and Rifle
Squad Leader. His last billet with the unit was 60mm Mortar Section Leader.
Sergeant Major Whitman reported to Marine Barracks 8th & I in 2005, en route Marine Security Company at the Presidential Retreat,
Camp David. While at Camp David, he was meritoriously promoted to Staff Sergeant. His billets included Infantry Unit Leader and
Site Security Officer until October 2008.
Sergeant Major Whitman reported to 3d Battalion, 6th Marines in November 2008. He deployed to Afghanistan in 2010 and 2011 and
to Amman Jordan in 2012. He served as Infantry Unit Leader, Platoon Commander, and Company Gunnery Sergeant. He was
Combat Meritoriously promoted to Gunnery Sergeant in December of 2011. Sergeant Major Whitman reported to the School of
Infantry-East in July 2012.
After graduating Marine Combat Instructor Course, Sergeant Major Whitman was assigned as Company Gunnery Sergeant, Delta
Company, Infantry Training Battalion-East, then to Marine Combat Instructor's School, School of Infantry-East as the Chief Instructor.
Sergeant Major Whitman was selected to First Sergeant and reported to Frankfurt Germany as Region First Sergeant, Region 5, Marine
Corps Embassy Security Group in June 2015.
Sergeant Major Whitman reported to 2d Battalion, 2d Marines in May of 2018 to serve as Company First Sergeant, Company G.
In October 2019, Sergeant Major Whitman assumed the billet of Battalion Sergeant Major at Combat Logistics Battalion 22. He
deployed in support of the Special Purpose Marine Air - Ground Task Force Crisis Response - Africa 20.2 in 2020. He then served as
Senior Enlisted Advisor, COVID Vaccination Support, Team Philly in Philadelphia, PA in 2021.
Sergeant Major Whitman went on to serve as Squadron Sergeant Major, Marine Wing Communications Squadron 28 aboard Marine
Corps Air Station Cherry Point from July 2021 to November 2022.
Sergeant Major Whitman is currently serving as Squadron Sergeant Major, Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 16 aboard Marine
Corps Air Station Miramar.
Sergeant Major Whitman's personal decorations include The Bronze Star Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device, Purple Heart
Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (2nd award), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2nd award), Navy and Marine Corps
Achievement Medal (3rd award), and the Combat Action Ribbon (2nd award).
