Sergeant Major Barto enlisted in to the Marine Corps on 14 October 2001 and reported to Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina, Fourth Recruit Training Battalion, Company N. Upon graduation of basic training, Private Barto reported to Camp Geiger, North Carolina for Marine Combat Training at the School of Infantry (East) and then reported to Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida in February 2002 for training in her Primary Military Occupational Specialty where she was promoted to Private First Class. After completing her Military Occupational Specialty school, she graduated and received the MOS of 6048, Flight Equipment Technician (Parachute Rigger).
In May 2002 Private First Class Barto reported to Marine Corps Air Station, Miramar, MALS-11, MAG-11, 3d Marine Air Wing, for duty as a Flight Equipment Technician. Private First Class Barto served in the 81B shop packing flotation devices for F-18's and C-130's. In December 2002 she was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal.
In February 2003, she served in her first deployment to Al Jaber, Kuwait with VMFA-225 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom/Operation Iraq Freedom, under a secondary Military Occupational Specialty school as a 9916 for the duration of her deployment. In October 2003 she reported back to MALS-11 where she served as a parachute rigger in the 81A shop.
In November 2004 she was promoted to the rank of Corporal, and then was assigned collateral duties as the Aviation Breathing Oxygen Program and Tool Control Program Supervisor. In February 2005, Corporal Barto was assigned as the Supervisor for 81C shop.
In December 2005, she was then assigned as the Production Control Chief for 800 Division, Aviation Life Support Systems and Cryogenics Branch a billet held by a Staff Non-Commissioned Officer. In April 2006 she was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Sergeant Barto was then assigned collateral duties as Technical Directives Program (TD), Individual Component Repair List Program (ICRL), and Support Equipment/Periodic Maintenance Schedule Program (SE/PMS) Manger, receiving a Bravo Zulu from the CGIP Team.
Sergeant Barto reported to Drill Instructor School, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island in July 2007. Upon her graduation, she was assigned to Fourth Recruit Training Battalion, Company O, on 26 October 2007. Sergeant Barto was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant in March 2009. During her tenure, she served as a Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, Chief Drill Instructor, Operations Chief, and Martial Arts Instructor.
Staff Sergeant Barto reported to VMM-561, Pale Horses, in April 2011 where she became a “Plank Owner” and held the billet as the Squadron Gunnery Sergeant. During this time, she was in support of standing up and deactivating the squadron in late December 2011 which is now VMM-363.
Staff Sergeant Barto reported to VMFAT-101 in January 2012 where she became the SNCOIC of the Flight Equipment work center, making history for her section, receiving a Bravo Zulu for the 5200 program from the CGIP Team. She was then promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant in March 2014.
Gunnery Sergeant Barto reported to VMFA-115 in January 2015 and dual hatted her billets. She was assigned as the Airframes Division Chief leading three of the largest work centers in the squadron: Airframes, Seats, and Flight Equipment. She was then hand selected by her Squadron Commander to be the Squadron Gunnery Sergeant and later deployed under the Unit deployment program.
Gunnery Sergeant Barto was frocked to the rank of First Sergeant in May 2017. She then reported to, Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, Recruit Training Regiment, Fourth Recruit Training Battalion, Company N, and then transferred to Company O, the most dynamic Company in the Recruit Training Regiment. First Sergeant Barto was also part of the planning process in assisting the Commanding General for Marines to integrate female and male Training Battalions for the first time, making history on 4 January 2019.
In August 2019, First Sergeant Barto reported to First Marine Expeditionary Force, First Marine Information Group, First Radio Battalion, Company A and then later transferred to Company C.
On 17 December 2021, First Sergeant Barto was frocked to the rank of Sergeant Major and assumed the post of Squadron Sergeant Major, Marine Wing Support Squadron 373 (MWSS-373), Third Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Aircraft Group 11.
Her Personal decorations include Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3) and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3).
