Sergeant Major Marvin B. Thomas

Sergeant Major Marvin B. Thomas was born on February 19 1985, in Montego Bay, Jamaica.  He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on July 22 2002, and attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina.  After completing Marine Combat Training and the Basic Supply School in Jacksonville NC, he was assigned to the 4th Marine Expeditionary Brigade (AT) as a Supply Clerk.  Private First Class Thomas was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal in April 2003.

Lance Corporal Thomas was temporarily assigned to 3d Battalion 2d Marine Regiment as a part of Task Force Lima and deployed to Afghanistan as the Supply representative from February to June 2004 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.  Lance Corporal Thomas was promoted to the rank of Corporal in December 2004.

Corporal Thomas was then temporarily assigned to Combat Logistics Battalion 2 in October 2004 and deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  He attended Corporal's Course and graduated as the Honor Graduate for the Class 1-05 and was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Sergeant in June of 2005.  In July 2006, Sergeant Thomas was transferred to Blount Island Command, Jacksonville Florida and assigned to Supply Container Management Branch.

Sergeant Thomas served as a Supply Quality Assurance NCO and Chief Martial Arts Instructor at Blount Island at Command.  Sergeant Thomas transferred from Blount Island Command in June of 2008 to attend Drill Instructor School Class 4-08 at MCRD San Diego.  Upon Completion of Drill Instructor School, he was assigned to Company A., 1st Recruit Training Battalion where he served as a Drill Instructor, Experienced Drill Instructor, and Senior Drill Instructor.  In January 2011, Staff Sergeant Thomas transferred to Instructional Training Company.  He attended the Martial Arts Instructor Trainer Course 1-11 in February of 2011 and graduated as the course Honor Graduate.  

Staff Sergeant transferred from MCRD San Diego in July of 2011 and reported to Second Supply Battalion, Camp Lejeune North Carolina and served as the SNCOIC of SMU Operations.  In January of 2012, Staff Sergeant Thomas was temporarily assigned to 3rd Battalion, 10th Marine Regiment.  He deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom as a Logistic Advisor for the Afghanistan National Army from May to December 2012.  Upon return from Afghanistan, Staff Sergeant Thomas served as the Battalion Legal Chief.

In December of 2013, Staff Sergeant Thomas was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant.  In August of 2014, Gunnery Sergeant Thomas transferred to 2d Assault Amphibian Battalion and where he served as the Battalion Supply Chief and Headquarters and Service Company First Sergeant.  

In July of 2016, Gunnery Sergeant Thomas transferred to Marine Air Control Squadron 4 where he served as the Squadron Supply Chief.

In May of 2017, Gunnery Sergeant Thomas was promoted to First Sergeant Thomas.  From May 2017 to July 2020 he served as the Company First Sergeant for Alpha Company and Headquarters and Service Company, 3d Law Enforcement Battalion,

In July of 2020, First Sergeant Thomas transferred to 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, where he served as the Company First Sergeant for Company B (REIN) and Engineer Support Company.

In November 2021, First Sergeant Thomas was promoted to the rank of Sergeant Major and assumed the duties as the Sergeant Major of Infantry Training Battalion, School of Infantry-West, MCB Camp Pendleton, California.

In December 2023, Sergeant Major Thomas transferred to Marine Wing Support Squadron 373 where he currently serves as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader.

Sergeant Major Thomas' personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (Second award), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (Fourth award) and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (Third award).
