Sergeant Major Christopher Futch

Sergeant Major Futch assumed his current post as VMM-364 Sergeant Major November 30, 2023. He was born in Jacksonville, Florida and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on June 10, 2002. He graduated from recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) Parris Island, South Carolina in September 2002 and reported to Infantry Training Battalion (ITB) at Camp Geiger, North Carolina. Upon completion of ITB, where he earned the Military Occupational Specialty of 0311 Rifleman, he was assigned to 1st Battalion 6th Marines, in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

In April 2004, 1st Battalion 6th Marines was assigned to the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) for Operation Enduring Freedom as part of the Maritime Special Purpose Force. During this deployment, Sergeant Major Futch participated in combat operations in Tirin Kut and Dey Chopan. While in Helmand Province he was promoted to the rank of Corporal on June 1, 2004. In 2005, Sergeant Major Futch was deployed with 1st Battalion 6th Marines to Fallujah, Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom where he was team leader. Upon the unit’s arrival back to the United States, Sergeant Major Futch was promoted to Sergeant on October 1, 2005. He then transferred to 6th Marine Regiment where in June 2006 he completed his End of Active Service.

In May 2008 Sergeant Major Futch returned to active service as a Sergeant and received orders to 3rd Battalion 9th Marines in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He attended Infantry Squad Leaders Course in 2008 and was awarded the Honor Graduate with a 98.78 GPA. In 2009 Sergeant Major Futch deployed to Rutbah, Iraq, as a squad leader with India Co. Upon the unit’s return from deployment, he attended Sergeant's School at Camp Johnson, North Carolina where he made the director's Honor Roll. He was then deployed in November 2010 to Marjah, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom as a squad leader.

In 2011 Sergeant Major Futch received orders to The Basic School in Quantico, Virginia. After attending the Instructor Education Program Level 100 at The Basic School, he began to teach the student Lieutenants on squad and platoon offensive and defensive operations. Sergeant Major Futch volunteered in 2014 for Combat Instructor duty at the School of Infantry East, Camp Geiger, North Carolina. After graduating combat instructor school, he was assigned to Charlie Company Infantry Training Battalion. On October 1, 2014, he was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant. In October 2015 he was picked to assume the role as Infantry Training Battalion Riflemen Chief, where he oversaw the 0311 period of instruction. He attended Career School at Camp Johnson, North Carolina as well as Infantry Unit Leaders Course in June of 2016. On July 2, 2016, he was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant and assumed the billet of Company Gunnery Sergeant of Delta Company, ITB. In 2017 Sergeant Major Futch finished Advance School and received orders to 1st Battalion 1st Marines, Camp Pendleton, CA.  

Once arriving at 1st Battalion 1st Marines, he assumed the billet of Headquarters and Service Company Gunnery Sergeant, where he deployed as part of the 31st MEU in October 2017. Upon return from the 31st MEU in May of 2018 he was transferred to 1st Battalion 4th Marines and assumed duties as their Headquarters and Service Company Gunnery Sergeant, where he once again deployed on the 31st MEU in October 2018. After returning from the 31st MEU in May of 2019 Sergeant Major Futch assumed duties as Charlie Company Gunnery Sergeant and deployed in support of the border mission in El Centro, CA. After returning from the border, he was selected to the rank of First Sergeant and took over duties as Alpha Company First Sergeant. In 2020 Sergeant Major Futch attended the First Sergeant Course in Quantico, VA as well as the Senior Leaders Legal Course.

In June 2020, Sergeant Major Futch was then given orders to Marine Corps Security Forces Regiment, Fleet Anti-Terrorism Security Team (FAST) Company, Europe. He was the First Sergeant of FASTEUR where he supported both the European Command and Africa Command. In 2023 Sergeant Major Futch was assigned to 1st Distribution Support Battalion as the First Sergeant of Littoral Distribution Company. November 2023, he received orders to Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 364 to be their Sergeant Major.

Sergeant Major Futch's personal awards include Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with three gold stars, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with three gold stars and Combat Distinguishing Device for Valor, and the Combat Action Ribbon with one gold star.

Sergeant Major Futch holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Liberal Studies from Purdue University Global.

He is married to Ashley Futch of Jacksonville, Florida. They have two children: Aiden and Adriana.
