Sergeant Major Norman was born in Norman Park, Georgia. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2006 and attended recruit training at 3d Recruit Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, SC. Upon Completion, he reported to the Marine Corps Engineer School at Courthouse Bay, North Carolina earning the MOS of 1371. He was promoted to Lance Corporal before reporting for duty with Combat Assault Battalion, Combat Engineer Company, Camp Schwab, Okinawa, Japan where he deployed to Fallujah, Iraq with 3d Battalion, 3d Marines. He was promoted to the rank of Corporal and later deployed to Afghanistan on Embedded Training Team 2-8 in Kunar Province. Upon his redeployment he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and became a squad leader participating in Cobra Gold, Balikatan, Korean Integrated Training Exercise, and Fuji Training Exercise.
In September 2010, Sergeant Norman reported to 8th Engineer Support Battalion, Camp Lejeune, NC where he served as a squad leader and deployed to Sangin, Afghanistan. Upon redeployment he gained the billet of Platoon Sergeant and began another work-up with his new platoon, deploying to Sangin, Afghanistan again in 2013. While on deployment he was combat meritoriously promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant. Upon return from deployment, he was selected to train Georgian Liaison Teams in Counter IED operations. He spent 4 months in Tbilisi, Georgia teaching multiple Georgian Army Brigades how to operate and survive in IED environments.
In March 2014, Staff Sergeant Norman reported to Marine Corps Engineer School, Courthouse Bay, NC. He spent the first 3 months at Basic Instructor Course and passing a series of instructor qualification boards, ultimately preparing him for his assignment as a demolitions instructor. Over the course of the next 3 years he instructed over 1500 hours in the subjects of basic military demolitions, urban breaching, assault breaching, advanced demolitions, and specialized/underwater demolitions. He mentored and taught over 120 classes of junior Marines, NCO's, and Officers in their new trade, ensuring they understood how to safely utilize and properly employ demolitions in every facet needed. In January of 2017, he was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant.
In March 2017, Gunnery Sergeant Norman reported to 1st Combat Engineer Battalion Camp Pendleton, CA. He was assigned as a platoon sergeant and began training his new platoon for an upcoming deployment on the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit with 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines. Upon return from deployment, he was assigned as the SNCOIC of the SAPPER School internal to 1st Combat Engineer Battalion and oversaw the instruction of demolitions, specialized explosives, dynamic assault, and breaching. He reassigned after one year as SNCOIC to Company Gunnery Sergeant for Company C, where he lead his company in operations through 3 Integrated Training Exercises, countless company level training evolutions, and 2 division level exercises. Approximately a year later he was reassigned as the Company First Sergeant for Company A.
In March 2021, First Sergeant Norman reported to 1st Battalion, 5th Marines where he was assigned as the company First Sergeant for Company B. He led his company through a pre-deployment training program, Integrated Training Exercise, Marine Corps Combat Readiness Evaluation, and into a 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit deployment. During this time, he was attributed with successfully managing MACO, Casualty Collection Procedures, and Tactical Air Control Coordination during 9 vertical assaults, 2 Bi-lateral training exercises with coalition forces, and multiple readiness evaluations to support inoperability within the INDOPACOM area of responsibility.
In August 2022, after successfully redeploying 142 Marines, First Sergeant Norman reported to I&I Site Support Baton Rouge, LA to assume his role as Site Support First Sergeant and Senior Enlisted Advisor. He spent the next 2 years training, mentoring, and preparing Reserve forces of 23d Marine Regiment to mobilize and deploy at a moments notice. In August 2024, he was promoted to Sergeant Major and transferred to HMH-462 were he currently holds the billet of Senior Enlisted Leader of the Squadron.
Sergeant Major Norman's personal awards include the Bronze Star with “V”, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal with gold star in lieu of third award, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with “V” and 3 gold stars in lieu of fourth award.
