Major General Robert B. Brodie assumed command of 3d Marine Aircraft Wing on 27 February 2026. A native of Bucks County, Pennsylvania, he graduated from The Citadel and was commissioned via the Platoon Leaders Class in August 1994.
Major General Brodie’s command assignments include Company Commander, Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron Company, Weapons Field Training Battalion; Commanding Officer, Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron 101; Commanding Officer, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit; and Commanding General, 3d Marine Expeditionary Brigade.
His operational assignments include three tours with Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 312 as part of Carrier Air Wings One and Three, as well as a tour with Marine All-Weather Fighter Attack Squadron 533. He has also served as the Air Officer for Regimental Combat Team 2; Operations Officer for the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit; Director of Combat Plans, 601st Air Operations Center; G-3 for III Marine Expeditionary Force; and Assistant Wing Commander for 3d Marine Aircraft Wing.
His combat experience includes participation in Operations SOUTHERN WATCH, IRAQI FREEDOM I and II, ENDURING FREEDOM, NEW DAWN, and INHERENT RESOLVE.
His additional assignments include Executive Assistant to the Deputy Commandant for Aviation and Director of Expeditionary Warfare (OPNAV).
Major General Brodie is a graduate of The Basic School, the Naval Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN), the Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course, the Aviation Maintenance Officer Course, and is a distinguished graduate of the U.S. Army War College. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in International and Military Affairs from The Citadel and a Master of Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College. A qualified F/A-18 Hornet and F-35 Lightning II pilot, Major General Brodie has flown every aircraft in the Marine Corps inventory.
His personal decorations include the Legion of Merit (with gold star), Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (with gold star), Air Medal (Strike/Flight, with Numeral 3), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (with gold star).
