Colonel Bartolomea assumed the duties of Chief of Staff, 3D Marine Aircraft Wing on 30 June 2023. He graduated from the Pennsylvania State University and was commissioned via the Reserve Officer Training Corps program in December 1995. Following The Basic School, he completed flight training and was designated an AH-1W Cobra Pilot.
Colonel Bartolomea’s command assignments include Charlie Company, The Basic School (TBS), Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron (HMLA) 467, HMLA-167, and Marine Aircraft Group 39.
Colonel Bartolomea’s operating forces assignments include tours with HMLA-169, HMLA-269, Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron (HMM) 165 (Reinforced) 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) (Special Operations Capable), HMM-265 (Reinforced) 31st MEU, 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 2d Marine Aircraft Wing (MAW) (Forward) G5, 2d MAW Force Preservation Officer, I Marine Expeditionary Force G3 Air, and 3d MAW G3. He has participated in Operations IRAQI FREEDOM I, IRAQI FREEDOM 06-08, and ENDURING FREEDOM.
Colonel Bartolomea’s additional assignments include Instructor at The Basic School; Director, Commandant’s Staff Group, Office of the Commandant; and Chief Planner, Joint Planning Support Element, Joint Enabling Capabilities Command, USTRANSCOM.
Colonel Bartolomea is a graduate of The Basic School, Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course, Amphibious Warfare School, Marine Corps Command and Staff College, and the Joint Advanced Warfighting School. He holds a BS in Business Management from Penn State and MS in Joint Campaign Planning and Strategy from the National Defense University.
Colonel Bartolomea’s personal decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal with 3 Gold Stars, Air Medal with Combat V and Numeral 11, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with 3 Gold Stars, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Combat V, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
