Lieutenant Colonel Boera graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Management Technology in 2007. He received his commission as a Second Lieutenant and subsequently designated an Artillery Officer with orders to 5th Battalion, 11th Marines at Camp Pendleton, CA.
LtCol Boera deployed to Helmand Province, Afghanistan as part of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM 10.1 and provided long range precision fires as HIMARS Platoon Commander and Fire Direction Officer. He was selected on the Field Accession Board after his first tour and was designated a Naval Aviator in November 2012. LtCol Boera completed AV-8B training and received orders to VMA-311 at MCAS Yuma, AZ.
As a Tomcat, he served as Airframes Officer and deployed on the 15th MEU which supported Operation INHERENT Resolve in 2015. Following the deployment, he was assigned as the Quality Assurance Officer and Aviation Safety Officer before deploying on an Individual Augment as a Joint Combat Plans Coalition Liaison Officer at the CAOC in Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar. LtCol Boera subsequently was selected for conversion to the F-35B in 2016.
LtCol Boera received orders to VMFA-122 Flying Leathernecks in MCAS Yuma, AZ in 2017, and was part of the initial cadre that stood up the redesignated squadron. He served as the Department of Safety and Standardization, Assistant Operations Officer, and Operations Officer while completing Full Operational Capability in 2019. In 2021, he deployed on the 15th MEU as the Future Operations Officer and supported Operation OCTAVE QUARTZ and Operation INHERENT RESOLVE before receiving order to VMFA-242 at MCAS Iwakuni, Japan.
In July 2021, he reported to VMFA-242 and assisted in the designation of Full Operational Capable. With the Bats, he served as the Aircraft Maintenance Officer and Detachment Officer-in-Charge for the squadron’s first deployed 31st MEU patrol 23.1. LtCol Boera served as the Executive Officer during his tenure and supported numerous OAIs and high-end missions in the First Island Chain. The Bats were selected as the 2024 Robert M. Hanson Award for Marine Fighter Attack Squadron of the year.
LtCol Boera received orders to VMX-1 in MCAS Yuma, AZ and served as the Science and Technology Department Head. While there, he attended the Service Chief Fellowship at DARPA and engaged in future integration with MCWL and fleet units. LtCol Boera was selected for command of VMFA-225 in 2024.
