Major Jeffrey Swanson is a graduate of California State University Northridge with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management. He was commissioned through the Platoon Leaders Course in December of 2012.
Second Lieutenant Swanson reported for training with Delta Company 4-13 at The Basic School in 2013. He reported to NAS Pensacola, FL, in November 2013 for flight training. After training at NAS Whiting Field, FL, and NAS Meridian, MS, First Lieutenant Swanson was designated a Naval Aviator in June 2016 and was slated for the F-35B. From August 2016 to September 2017, First Lieutenant Swanson trained at VMFAT-501 aboard MCAS Beaufort, SC.
In September 2017, First Lieutenant Swanson checked into Marine Air Group 13, MCAS Yuma, AZ, and was initially assigned to Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 122. In January 2018, Captain Swanson was transferred to VMFA-211 "The Wake Island Avengers". Captain Swanson deployed with VMFA-211 in support of the 13th MEU aboard the USS Essex from July 2018 through February 2019. VMFA-211 flew in support of OPERATION FREEDOM'S SENTINEL and OPERATION INHERENT RESOLVE. Captain Swanson also served as the adjutant, supply officer, and current and future operation officer. While he was with VMFA-211, he was designated as a Division Lead.
In June 2020, Captain Swanson was transferred to VMFA-122 in MCAS Yuma, AZ, and was certified as a F-35 Lightning Tactics Instructor and Air Combat Maneuvering Instructor and was designated a Mission Commander. While at VMFA-122, Captain Swanson served as a division officer for the Aviation Logistics Information Management System division.
Captain Swanson reported to VMFA-225 "Vikings" in MCAS Yuma, AZ, in March 2021. Captain Swanson served as the Quality Assurance Officer with the Vikings during its stand-up as an F-35B squadron and its progression to full operational capability.
Major Swanson reported to Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron 502 and attended and graduated from Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course 2-23 in April 2023. While with "The Flying Nightmares", Major Swanson served as Pilot Training Officer, Chief Instructor Pilot, and Quality Assurance Officer. Major Swanson is currently serving as the Executive Officer.
Major Swanson's personal decorations include an Air Medal with Strike/Flight Numeral 2, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
