Sergeant Major, Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 211
Sergeant Major Shane M. Kresge

Sergeant Major Kresge is a native of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on 6 June 2006 and attended recruit training with Platoon 2065, Echo Company, 2d Recruit Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina.  Upon Completion, he attended “A” School at Naval Air Station Pensacola, FL to become an Aviation Structures and Hydraulics Mechanic. Upon completion he reported to the Center for Naval Technical Training Unit Cherry Point, NC to attend the AV-8B Airframes Organizational Level School where he earned the Miliary Occupational Specialty (MOS) 6252 AV-8B Airframes Mechanic.

In April of 2007, SgtMaj Kresge reported to Marine Attack Squadron 513 (VMA-513), aboard Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, AZ where he was assigned to the Airframes Division. In December of 2007 he deployed to the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) aboard the U.S.S. Essex. He was promoted to Lance Corporal in April of 2008 and was meritoriously promoted to Corporal in June 2008.

In September of 2009 SgtMaj Kresge deployed with Marine Helicopter Squadron 166 reinforced, aboard the U.S.S. Bonhomme Richard in support of the 11th MEU where he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in December 2009 and served as a Collateral Duty Inspector and Work Center Supervisor for the Airframes Division.

In April 2010 SgtMaj Kresge rejoined VMA-513 and worked as the Airframes Division Non-Commission Officer In-Charge. SgtMaj Kresge was a Collateral Duty Inspector (CDI), Collateral Duty Quality Assurance Representative (CDQAR), Low Power, Phase Coordinator, and Hydraulic Control Program Manager. SgtMaj Kresge deployed in May of 2011 to Kandahar, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He served as the Staff Non-Commissioned Officer In-Charge of the Airframes Division. Upon return from deployment, SgtMaj Kresge was assigned to the Maintenance Control Work Center where he deployed in December of 2012 in support of the 31st MEU as the SNCOIC of Maintenance Control.

In July 2013 SgtMaj Kresge received orders to Marine Attack Squadron 311 (VMA-311) after the deactivation of VMA-513. SgtMaj Kresge was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant in May 2014 and served as the Staff Non-Commissioned Officer In-Charge of Maintenance Control. In 2015, SgtMaj Kresge deployed on the 15th MEU as the Air Combat Element Airframes Division Chief with Marine Medium Tilt-Rotor Squadron 161 (VMM-161) in support of Operation Inherent Resolve aboard the U.S.S. Essex. In January of 2017 SgtMaj Kresge deployed to the 31st MEU as the Quality Assurance Chief and served aboard the U.S.S. Bonhomme Richard.

In October 2027, SgtMaj Kresge received orders to MCRD San Diego, CA for Drill Instructor School where he was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant in August 2018. During his tour of duty SgtMaj Kresge was assigned to 1st RTBN Charlie Company, Delta Company, and Instructional Training Company.

Upon completion of Drill Instructor duty, SgtMaj Kresge received orders to Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, NC where he serves as the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Command as the Aircraft Branch Chief and Airframes SNCOIC. In November of 2022 he was selected to the rank of First Sergeant (1stSgt) and received orders to 3d Battalion, 5th Marines, Camp Pendleton CA where he served as Company I Unit Senior Enlisted Leader and deployed to Okinawa in support of UDPH 23.2. In July of 2024, SgtMaj Kresge received orders to serve as the Headquarters Company, 5th Marine Regiment Unit Senior Enlisted Leader.

In April 2026 SgtMaj Kresge was promoted to his current rank and received orders to Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 211 (VMFA-211), Marine Aircraft Group 13, Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, AZ where he and currently serves as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader.

SgtMaj Kresge’s personal awards include the Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal with two gold stars, and the Navy-Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two gold stars. SgtMaj Kresge is married to Daisy Salgado-Salazar, and has blended family consisting of 3 children: Tiffany 17, Nathan 11, and Emanuel 5.
