Sergeant Major McGlothlin is a native of Camden, Maine. He Joined the Marine Corps in June of 2006 into the delayed entry program and graduated Camden Hills Regional High School in Camden ,Maine in June 2007. Sergeant Major McGlothlin reported to Marine Corps Recruit depot, Parris Island, S.C on 14 June 2007 and was assigned to Golf Company, Second Battalion, Recruit Training Regiment and graduated in September 2007.
Upon completion of recruit training, Sergeant Major McGlothlin reported to Marine Combat Training, School of Infantry-East (SOI-E) in October 2007 and in December of 2007 attended Ammunition Technician’s Course, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama receiving the MOS 2311.
January 2008 Sergeant Major McGlothlin reported to Ammunition Company, 2nd Supply Battalion, Combat Logistics Regiment 25, Camp Lejeune, N.C. He later deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Helmand Province, Afghanistan with Combat Logistics Command 252, 1st Marine Expeditionary Brigade from September 2009 to June 2010. While on this deployment he was promoted to the rank of Corporal.
Upon his return from deployment in January of 2010 Sergeant Major McGlothlin reported to Combat Logistics Battalion 22 where he served as Ammunition Chief and deployed in support of Operation Odessey Guard with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) aboard the USS Mesa Verde (LPD 19) from February 2011 until March of 2012, during this time he was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Sergeant.
June 2012 Sergeant Major McGlothlin executed orders to Marine Wing Support Squadron 372, MCB Camp Pendelton CA, where he served as Ammunition Chief and deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from March of 2013 to October 2013. Upon his return he was selected to serve as a Basic Security Guard, Marine Security Forces.
In November 2014 upon graduating from the Basic Security Guard course, Sergeant Major McGlothlin was selected to Serve as a Schoolhouse instructor. Sergeant Major McGlothlin attained the billet of Master Instructor and Basic Security Guard Course Chief and was promoted to Staff Sergeant in October of 2015. Sergeant Major McGlothlin served as Course Chief until November of 2017 when he was meritoriously promoted to Gunnery Sergeant and received orders to 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit.
In January 2018 Sergeant Major McGlothlin reported to the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit where he served as the MEU Ammunition chief and deployed in support of MEU operations from January 2019 to August 2019 aboard the USS Arlington (LPD 24). Subsequently in February of 2020 Sergeant Major McGlothlin was deployed in support of Special Marine Air Ground Task Force, Crisis Response Africa 20.2 to Maron, Spain.
In June of 2021 Sergeant Major McGlothlin received orders to Camp Pendleton Ca, where he reported to Ammunition Company, 1st Supply Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group where he served as Company Gunnery Sergeant.
In December of 2021 Sergeant Major McGlothlin was selected to the rank of First Sergeant and received orders to 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division, serving as First Sergeant for Company B. First Sergeant McGlothlin deployed with Company B and Battalion Landing Team 1/5 in support of the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit 24.1 in the United States Indo-Pacific theatre of operations aboard the USS Somerset (LPD 25).
First Sergeant McGlothlin reported to 7th Engineer Support Battalion on April 1st ,2025 and served as Company First Sergeant for 1st Bulk Fuel Company and Headquarters and Service Company. In November of 2025 First Sergeant McGlothlin was selected to the rank of Sergeant Major and received orders to VMM 161. Sergeant Major McGlothlin reported to VMM 161 on 1 April where he is currently serving as the squadron Sergeant Major.
Sergeant Major McGlothlin’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation medal (with 4 gold stars in lieu of 5th award), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (with one gold star in lieu of second award) and the Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.
