Executive Officer, Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 314
Major Erik Hopkins

Major Hopkins currently serves as the Executive Officer of Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 314.

Major Hopkins graduated from the University of Delaware in May 2005 and 2007 with a B.A. in International Relations and MPA in Financial Management and Economic Development. Major Hopkins served on the US Senate Federal Financial Management Subcommittee until he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant through the Officer Candidate Course in December 2010. Upon completion of The Basic School, Second Lieutenant Hopkins reported to Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola where he commenced flight training. In October 2013 First Lieutenant Hopkins was designated a Naval Aviator in NAS Kingsville and proceeded to Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point to complete AV-8B training with Marine Attack Training Squadron 203.

In May 2015, Captain Hopkins was assigned to Marine Attack Squadron 542 aboard MCAS Cherry Point. Captain Hopkins deployed June 2016 through January 2017 with the 22d MEU and flew combat sorties in support of OPERATION ODYSSEY LIGHTNING in Sirte, Libya and CENTCOM in Yemen. During this tour, Captain Hopkins earned MAWTS-1 Weapons Training Officer, Division Lead, and Day/Night LSO. Captain Hopkins served in a variety of billets during this tour including Operations, Logistics, and Maintenance OIC.

In June 2018, Captain Hopkins reported to EWTGLANT TACP school at JEB Little Creek and joined Marine Special Operations Company Hotel, 2d Marine Raider Battalion on board Stone Bay. Captain Hopkins served as a Special Operations Air Officer, Forward Air Controller, and Company Operations Officer from July 2018 through July 2020. Captain Hopkins deployed with Special Operations Task Force North in CENTCOM and conducted combat operations throughout the AOR.

 In July 2020, Major Hopkins reported to Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron 502 for F-35B conversion training with follow on orders as an Instructor Pilot. Major Hopkins moved with the squadron to MCAS Miramar in January 2022. Major Hopkins earned Fleet Replacement Squadron Instructor, Functional Check Flight, Flight Lead Standardization Evaluator, MAWTS-1 Air Combat Maneuvering Instructor, Lightning Tactics Instructor, and Weapons and Tactics Instructor designations during this period. He ended his tour at VMFAT 502 as the Chief Instructor Pilot and Training Department OIC.

In October 2023, Major Hopkins completed F-35C Series Conversion and Carrier Qualification training and reported to VMFA-314 in October 2023.

Major Hopkins' personal decoration include Air Medal Individual Action, Air Medal Strike/Flight, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation with "C" device, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation (second award), Combat Action Ribbon, and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. Major Hopkins is married and has two daughters.
