Executive Officer, Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 214
Major Michael T. Savage

Major Savage currently serves as the Executive Officer of Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 214.

Major Savage is a 2012 graduate of the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering.  He was commissioned in December of 2012, designated a Naval Aviator in December of 2016 and completed his initial qualification in the AV-8B Harrier in March of 2018.

Major Savage’s operational assignments include one deployment aboard Shaikh Isa Air Base, Bahrain with Marine Attack Squadron 223 (VMA-223), executing Close Air Support missions in support of OPERATION INHERENT RESOLVE against ISIS in the Mid-Euphrates River Valley region.  During his time with VMA-223, Major Savage also deployed aboard the USS Iwo Jima with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, providing direct support for the evacuation conducted from Hamid Karzai International Airport in Afghanistan.  During his time in the AV-8B community, he held squadron billets to include ALSS OIC, as well as Current and Future Operations Officer. 

Major Savage began conversion training to the F-35B in November of 2021, and reported to Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 214 (VMFA-214) in June of 2022.  During his tenure with the Black Sheep, Major Savage has served as both the squadron’s Aviation Safety Officer, as well as the Director of Safety and Standardization. 

Major Savage has over 1,100 mishap free flight hours in the AV-8B and the F-35B.  He is a graduate of the MAWTS-1 Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course (WTI).
