Lieutenant Colonel Williams graduated from the University of California, Riverside in June 1991 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He was commissioned via the Officer Candidates Course in April 1999 and attended The Basic School. In October 1999, he reported to NAS Pensacola, FL, for Primary, Intermediate and Advanced Flight Training, earning his Naval Flight Officer Wings in June 2001. In September 2001, he reported to the “Sharpshooters” of VMFAT-101 for initial F/A-18 Weapons Systems Officer (WSO) training.
In June 2002, Lieutenant Colonel Williams joined the “Bats” of VMFA (AW)-242, deploying in September 2002 to MCAS Iwakuni. In August 2004, he deployed to Al Asad AB, Iraq, where he flew combat missions in support of Operations IRAQI FREEDOM II and PHANTOM FURY. Lieutenant Colonel Williams served as the Ground Safety Officer, S-6 Officer, and the Flight Officer and was certified as an Air Combat Tactics instructor.
In January 2006, Lieutenant Colonel Williams reported to 1st Marine Logistics Group (1st MLG) and deployed immediately to Al Taqaddum AB, Iraq, in support of OIF 05-07 as the Air Officer/Forward Air Controller.
In March 2007, he reported to VMFAT-101 for duty as an Instructor WSO (IWSO) where he led several training detachments to NAS Fallon, NV, and Nellis AFB, NV. He served as the Powerline Division Officer, Air-Ground Phase Head, and WSO Syllabus Manager. During this tour, he was certified as a Forward Air Controller (Airborne) Instructor and was recognized several times as the IWSO of the Quarter.
In January 2010, Lieutenant Colonel Williams reported to I Marine Expeditionary Force (I MEF), MCB Camp Pendleton, CA, where he served as the G-3 Future Operations (FOPS) Operational Planning Team lead planner with responsibilities for I MEF crisis response, the 1st Marine Expeditionary Brigade (1st MEB) and all contingency and operational plans.
In July 2011, Lieutenant Colonel Williams reported to “Scorpions” of Headquarters Squadron, Marine Aircraft Group 11 (MAG-11) where he served as the Director of Safety and Standardization. During this tour, he deployed to Al Udeid AB, Qatar, for joint duty as the Master Air Attack Plan (MAAP) Chief, Combat Plans Division, 609th Air and Space Operations Center, in support of Operations NEW DAWN and ENDURING FREEDOM. In April 2013, Lieutenant Colonel Williams joined the “Vikings” of VMFA(AW)-225 where he served as the Aircraft Maintenance Officer and the Executive Officer. During this tour, he deployed ISO a CENTCOM RFF and the Unit Deployment Program.
In September 2015, Lieutenant Colonel Williams reported to Headquarters Marine Corps, Department of Aviation where he has served as the Fixed Wing Occupational Field Sponsor and Manpower Analyst and as the Division Head, Aircrew Programs.
In July 2018, Lieutenant Colonel Williams rejoined MAG- 11 to serve as the Executive Officer.
Lieutenant Colonel Williams has logged over 2300 mishap-free flight hours with over 2000 hours in the F/A-18. His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with one Gold Star in lieu of second award, the Single Mission Air Medal with Combat “V”, Strike/Flight Air Medal with numeral "7", the Joint Service Commendation Medal, and the Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal with two Gold Stars in lieu of third award.
