Major Teach is currently serving as the Commanding Officer, Headquarters Squadron 39, Marine Aircraft Group 39, 3d Marine Aircraft Wing aboard Marine Corps Air Station Camp Pendleton.
Nicholas Teach graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 2006 with a degree in Political Science. Upon graduation, Second Lieutenant Teach was commissioned on 2 June 2006 and traveled to Quantico, Virginia for The Basic School (TBS). Upon graduating from TBS, he reported to Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida for flight training in July 2007. He was designated a Naval Aviator on 9 October 2009, and was selected to fly the AH-1W.
Upon completing Fleet Replacement Squadron training at HMLA/T-303 in May 2010, First Lieutenant Teach was assigned to HMLA-169 aboard Camp Pendleton, CA. He deployed to Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan in support of OEF 11-1 in October 2010 and served as the assistant Communications Officer and Substance Abuse Control Officer. Upon returning from deployment Captain Teach was assigned as the squadron’s Ground Training Officer. In December 2012 Captain Teach deployed to the 31st MEU as part of HMM-262(REIN) where he served as the Flight Equipment Officer in Charge. After returning from his second deployment Captain Teach attended the Tactical Air Control Party School at Expeditionary Warfare Training Group-Pacific and was assigned to 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment in September 2013. In March 2014, Captain Teach deployed to Darwin, Australia as part of the first battalion rotation of Marine Rotational Force-Darwin (MRF-D). Upon returning from MRF-D, Captain Teach was assigned to HMLA-469 in October, 2014 where he served as the Phase Maintenance Officer in Charge. In June, 2016 Major Teach reported to Support Battalion, Recruit Training Regiment, Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego to serve as the Executive Officer. Major Teach served in this capacity for one year before being transferring to 2nd Recruit Training Battalion to serve as the Executive Officer. In 2018, Major Teach transferred to Marine Corps Operational Test Activity in Quantico, VA to serve as the Operational Test Project Officer for the MADIS Air Defense Program. In July, 2019 received orders to HMLA-469 and served as the Executive Officer and deployed in support of the Unit Deployment Program to Okinawa, Japan. Upon completing his assignment in November, 2020, Major Teach was reassigned to Headquarters Squadron 39, where he is currently serving as the Commanding Officer. His qualifications and designations include Section Lead, Functional Check Flight Pilot, Terrain Flight Instructor, Weapons Training Officer, Annual NATOPS Instructor, and Night System Instructor.
Major Teach is a graduate of Senior Officer’s Legal Course, Mountain Warfare Leaders Course, Expeditionary Warfare School Distance Education Program, and the Marine Corps Command and Staff College Distance Education Program. Major Teach is also Level 1 DAWIA certified in Program Management. His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal (Strike/Flight) with Bronze 5, the Navy Commendation Medal, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
